Brachiosaurus, the “Arm Lizard”, is one of the best known of all the ancient dinosaurs of the Jurassic. Not only was Brachiosaurus one of the biggest, it was also one of the most distinctive, with its huge body and nostril bump. This Furuta model is one of the finest small scale replicas of this macronarian species yet!

Brachiosaurus Furuta

As with the previously reviewed Apatosaurus, Furuta’s sculpting is top notch. The Brachiosaurus is about three inches tall and everything is proportioned correctly: the little head on a tall, elongated neck, the huge body with long forequarters and shorter hindquarters, and a short tail. The head has the nostril bump or high nostrils with a bovine-like snout and little eyes on the side. The neck is long with wrinkled skin, and the large torso has wrinkled skin too, indicating that it is an older individual. The legs are like pillars with small claws on each foot and the tail is somewhat in a curved position due to the pose of the animal – it is turning, possibly to graze upon another towering species of flora.

The painting of the piece is decent. The eyes are bright white and black and the overall color of the body is brownish-orange and very similar to a giraffe. The theoretical color was probably chosen to reflect the similarity between the Brachiosaurus altithorax and Giraffa camelopardalis. There is no bleeding or sloppiness present, however, the pupil of the left eye seem to be looking up, which doesn’t match the straight forward looking right eye. Really though, you can’t complain here!

The figure was only in a small plastic bag so there was no “real packaging”, but he did have a cool bonus: a Brachiosaurus bio card or a trading card. Around ninety-five percent of it is printed in Japanese but it has a nice scale comparison with a human being. The Brachiosaurus figure does need some gentle assembly, the plastic that this line is constructed from is thin and must be handled gracefully, just like the Brachiosaurus once was!

Brachiosaurus Furuta

Overall, this Brachiosaurus is a great figure and while he is not really in scale with his counterparts, he looks great with the other animals in the set, plus it fares well with other figures his size too and even by himself. He’s a true collectable and well worth obtaining! The Brachiosaurus along, with the set I purchased years ago on eBay, is scarce today, but look there often and you might get lucky! Sometimes available on eBay here!
