Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Kinder Joy Eggs (by Ferrero)

Here is an interesting fact.  In the United States of America, the release of the limited edition Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Kinder Joy Eggs  would have been illegal if it had been released in previous years.  The reason for this is that any candy with a toy or “non-nutritive object embedded” inside it has been illegal since 1938, when the U.S. passed the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. To meet the FDA requirements the eggs have been modified. They started to sell the new eggs at beginning of 2018 and everyone in the U.S. is able to purchase them.  The eggs that are sold in the U.S.A., are called Kinder Joy eggs and not the Kinder Surprise eggs that are popular in Europe. The difference, the U.S. friendly Kinder Joy Eggs have two plastic halves that separate. Inside one half, you will find the toy and inside the other half, you will find chocolate pudding/custard with wafer bites.

I never planned on getting any of these toys. In fact, I didn’t even know they existed until I saw them in a store the night before we left to go on vacation.   When I discovered these eggs in the store I thought these would be a fun thing for the kids and adults to open up during the trip.  Especially as we were going to be in the car all day to reach  our destination.   As an added reason for me to purchase the eggs was the fact that we were planning to see the movie Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom while on vacation.  It just seamed to be a perfect idea for the trip.

When you open up the egg you have two sealed sides.  One side holds the snack while the other has the toy.  You then have a choice, do you eat the snack or do you check out which toy you have?  Ok that’s not a real question, lets be real, nobody eats first we all open up the side with the toy to see what we got.  When you peel back the seal on the toy half of the egg there are eight different toys you could receive featuring different animals from the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom movie.  You could receive one of the following animals, a Stegosaurus, Blue the raptor, Triceratops, Apatosaurus, Dimorphodon, Mosasaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, or an Ankylosaurus.

Once you peel back the covering there is a little poster is revealed that has directions on one side and art work featuring all the animals (with the exception of the Mosasaurus) on the other.  It also come with a individual background that reminds you to download the app, and of course there is the dinosaur toy itself.

Apatosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Triceratops

The toy is made of plastic and it is split into two halves. If you separate the two halves you will reveal the plastic skeleton underneath. All the sculpts are rather generic and are neither life like or accurate.

Top: T-rex Bottom: Stegosaurus

The skeletons are one solid piece of molded plastic that are not deeply detailed. Just enough detail to let you know that they form a skeleton.

Back: Apatosaurus, T-rex. Middle: Ankylosaurus, Triceratops. Front: Stegosaurus

With the exception of the Mosasaurus which has a blue top and a white belly, they are made with one solid color.  The white is the skeleton which is exposed to be horn, spikes, or a club.

Back row: T-rex, Ankylosaurus, Apatosaurus, Dimorphodon. Front row: Triceratops, Mosasaurus, Stegosaurus.

The best or worst pose depending on how you look at it has to be the Dimorphodon. It looks like it is sleep walking or practicing to be a zombie on the Walking Dead.

Overall:  Do not expect anything more than what they are.  They are meant to be a fun prize while you eat a snack.  In that way they are a lot of fun to try and collect.  I know I had fun with my kids and family as we opened up the eggs and played with them during a long car trip.  As a toy they are ok and the fact that you can split them open and use their skeleton is really cool.  Than can be fun and whimsical sitting on your desk or shelf at home or at work. These are not serious toys made for collectors, they are meant for little kids and those who enjoy a little silliness.  Stocks are running out in stores so if you want them you need to act quick or head to good old e-bay.

  • These are sort of cute in a very ugly way. I wouldn’t spend any money on them (especially because I think the chocolate they make the Kinder eggs out of is kinda gross), but I wouldn’t be mad if someone gave me one.

  • You are incorrect about the introduction of Kinder Joy. Kinder Joy eggs are still available outside of the USA. Kinder Joy eggs are different because they contain entirely different food, and you are guaranteed one of a small selection of toys.

“Normal” Kinder eggs are one incredibly thin chocolate shell with a usually junk “toy” inside. If you like spin-tops that don’t work or cardboard fidget spinners than good for you, but needless to elaborate most people don’t feel much “joy” when they open them and finish the 3 whole seconds worth of chocolate.

Kinder Joy are designed to circumvent the usual complaints of Kinder Surprise, that is the lackluster amount of chocolate and the often horrible surprise. Hence these contain a chocolate cream dip (which is ~5 times the mass of chocolate you’d normally get) and only have one series of toys your prize will be from.

  • I noticed around Christmas time last year that Kinder eggs were in my local stores, advertised as “Available for the first time in U.S.”.I knew what they were and wasn’t aware they were previously unavailable here.Since I don’t eat a lot of candy, I just thought I wasn’t looking hard enough for them.6 months later, when I saw the Jurassic world special editions at Wal Mart,I thought I’d give one a try.I don’t know how different the candy is from its overseas counterpart, but I thought it was delicious. And being a lifelong dinosaur/monster collector,I was delighted with the toy.I got the Ankylosaur.
