Eryon (Dinotales series 4 by Kaiyodo)

With a lot of companies that produce prehistoric animal figures, you can often get a lot of repetition of familiar species, or focus on large dinosaurs. Very few decide to make figures of the less familiar or smaller creatures that shared their world with the terrible lizards. I mean, how many would think to make a figure of Eryon?

Eryon is a decapod from the Solnhofen limestone of Germany, from the late Jurassic period. Owing to the nature of the site, preservation on the species there is incredible, so the full body can be seen in amazing detail, which means a figure of it should be well done.

Onto the figure! At 2″ long and 2.4″ wide, it’s actually only half the size of the actual animal, making it better suited for being with other smaller species. The paint scheme is primarily violet for the sell, with black eyes and paint apps down the tail, while the legs are red and the underbelly white. The stance id quite impressive, as if facing off a predator or another of it’s species.

Now to accuracy. As this is made by Kaiyodo, this should be pretty good. Based on the fossils, this seems to be very well represented, Even the shape of the shell seems to be directly based off the fossil (as seen on Wikipedia). The front limbs are a decent length, it features all ten limbs and the tail is the right length. All in all, very accurate.

I love Kaiyodo for bringing out species like this, the kind that no other company would. This is a unique figure, well worth hunting down and getting. Not only beautiful to look at, but well sculpted and unlikely to be made again any time soon. If you can find it, get it.

“Hmm, bit of a tough meal….”

  • This is one of my favorite pieces. Kaiyodo’s invertebrates and fishes are absolute treasures.

  • Thank you for this review! I have another Eryon, that I have seen online as a Nayab figure. It is solid orange and appears to be heavily influenced by the Kaiyodo figure πŸ™‚

Always love to see my arthropods getting representation πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  • Neat little figure. Takes up little space but adds character to wherever you display it. Nice review.
