Long-Necked Plesiosaur/Woolungasaurus (Lost Kingdoms Series A by Yowie)

While I do admire the Yowie line for it’s variety, several have given me headaches for being based off species known off bits and pieces, a leg bone or a finger. Fortunately, this isn’t the case for all, and here we have one such case, Woolungasaurus, an elasmosaurid plesiosaur from the early Cretaceous of Queensland, Australia. Known from a partial skeleton and other finds, a much better picture of this beastie can be made, as Yowie did! Let’s take a look……

This paint scheme really works well, a greyish green with blue streaks and spots, with a white underbelly, very nicely painted. It is small, as these do have to fit into chocolate, measuring 3.2″ long and 1.2″ high, better with smaller lines. The pose is nice, though going for an older look with a slightly more swan like look, which it was unlikely to actually be able to do. Still looks cool though.

Now to accuracy. With a good deal of fossil material, this should be decent. It does seem right, maybe the head a touch long and the hindlimbs should be shorter, but otherwise a well made and accurate piece. Not much more to say on that.

Yowie is a great company for the variety of life they have replicated over the years, and this is no exception. A nice model of an animal that no other company has made, but this one example is a good one at the very least. Worth a hunt through eBay for.
