The Battat Dynasty

The legendary Battat Collection. I'm sure everyone is familiar with them, and for many collectors, no prehistoric collection is totally complete without at least a few representative. After almost two decades, they are still admired for the accuracy and quality of their sculpt, and had withstood the test of time.
Two artist, Dan LaRusso and Greg Wenzel of The Dinosaur Studio, sculpted the figures. The line is the first in exclusively producing only dinosaurs, there are no marine reptiles, pterosaurs, or the odd mammals (and mammal-like) mixed in the line. All the figures produced are in the 1:40 scale, making a truly  impressive display.
The Battat collection is where Amargasaurus, Gallimimus, Acrocanthosaurus,Ouranosaurus,Edmontonia all (perhaps more?)made their first appearance as toy figures.
The line was produced between 1994 and 1998 (almost every other year, 94,96,98 )before going extinct, perhaps a victim of changing market and problems with quality control.
With their extinction, they have become highly sought after by collectors, and some such as the Acrocanthosaurus  and Diplodocus fetching some really impressive price when auctioned.
There were 18 figures total in the large 1:40 scale:

1994 releases
Dilophosaurus

Diplodocus

Gallimimus

Stegosaurus

Triceratops

Utahraptor (designed to attach on backs of prey)

T-Rex (original and snow shoe versions)

1996 releases
Ceratosaurus

Ouranosaurus

Acrocanthosaurus

Amargasaurus

Edmontonia

Styracosaurus

1998 releases (last production)

Carnotaurus

Euoplocephalus

Maiasaurus

Pachycephalosaurus

Parasaurolophus

In addition, there were also two boxed set of  5 mini figures released
Box 1- Ceratosaurus, Dilophosaurus,stegosaurus,utahraptor,Triceratops
Box 2 – Amargasaurus, Euoplocephalus,Gallimimus,Ouranosaurus,Styracosaurus

The minis are exact replica of the larger figures.

In addition, there was also a mini T-Rex produced.
With only a very limited release, this mini T-Rex is almost a mythical figure in its rarity. It is perhaps the most sought after figure in the line, and command a very high price (yes, more than the diplo). I think I have seen it only twice on ebay ( One, I believed sold for over $300!)

Battat figures were sold both boxed and un-boxed

The entire collection

As a Bonus, here are some unpainted resin replicas of some of the figures that I was able to acquired directly from one of the sculptor, Dan Larusso, way back in 2002.The resin replicas were originally produced to be sent to the manufacture to use to make the mold, and also some to be used as prototype for the paint designs. If I remember correctly, there were 10 different paint designs per figure.
The ones I have were extra copies that the artist had. However, some resin copies were later produced (limited) and were sold by a few online stores (as recently as 5 years ago).

With some of the PVC figures

I also got his signed copy of the Stegosaur from the artist (Dan LaRusso)

And lastly, as a very generous gift, Dan gave me one of his signed watercolor piece with this written on it " from one dinosaur fan to another".
This is one of my most treasured dinosaur art.

My compliments to you on a superb collection and even more so for sharing them with me. Much appreciated.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

I think if I sent photos of what my two little boys have done to my Battats people on the forum would drop dead from horror.  Still have two diplo though...untouched..somewhere in my garage...

If only Battat had survived... :'(

Thanks everyone ^-^ Yap, I was lucky to have acquired those resins, I really like them... now, if I can just learn how to mould them ;) ;D Can you imagine? ;D
The Battat Para is my favorite version of the species ever produced in toy line. Wish someone will release a new one (NO Schleich don't count! :P), Safari or CollectA,with the crest sail just like the Battat one.
So, what should I do next? PlayVision? Maybe I will revive the trilogy >:D

I would count the original Certosaurus, tail of fthe ground as a rare Battat the later tripod stance being more common.  The hardest to find figure I think is the mini version of the T rex.

I didn't realize there were two versions of the cera. First time I've heard about that.

Ditto that. I really can't think of a more superior one (Kaiyodosaurs excluded).

The single picture is the later tripod but the group shot and the mini version are the original sculpt.  The production process was not equal to the designs.  Really influence all the other lines after they came out.  The non dinosaur figure swere the sales drag.

I just realized that I once owned the biped version of the cera! (but he was very worn so I resold him soon after buying him). I didn't even notice that he was different from me tripod one. Here is the biped version I used to have: http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/Seijun/For%20Sale/Battats/Ceratosaurus/IMG_9374b.jpg

Oh wow, I never even notice that there were two versions of the cerato! And I have them both, one  in PVC (tripod) and one in resin. I wonder why they changed it to a tripod pose, the resin  one I got stands perfectly and very stable.

Is that your mini t-rex?
