I'm also still wondering what's going in with the Megaloceros. Easily one of my most anticipated figures this year. Hope it still releases even if late like what happened with the Spinosaurus last year.

@Loon I'm out of the loop on the fur coloration. Any examples of this out there?

@Faelrin I read about it in Darren Naish's article:
http://tetzoo.com/blog/2018/9/9/the-life-appearance-of-the-giant-deer-megaloceros

It's based on some art found on a Cougnac cave wall.

@Loon Thanks for the link. That's definitely different then I would have imagined it. Thank goodness those ancient people made some artwork depicting it. It is probably the closest we'll get to know its coloration, since we cannot see it alive anymore (unless there's a frozen corpse out there yet to be discovered), much like the case with the woolly rhino.

I could only hope that when another company that produces one, they go this route. It would also be way more unique anyways then copying some extant deer's coloration.

Edit: Well I'll be darned. I was searching for artwork of Megaloceros, to see if there's any other reconstructions of it out there depicted this way, when I saw that the WWB one has been done this way. So I guess I'm really no stranger to this coloration after all. Funny how it slipped my mind, despite how recent it was that I re-watched this show again. Despite how some things have not held up after all this time, I guess this is one thing that did at least. Figured I would pass this along here.

Walking with Beasts also gave their woolly rhino the proper colouration, if you look closely you can notice the darker band of fur around its torso.
That reminds me, I made a Megaloceros illustration a bit over a year ago.

I am however not sure if the Papo model would be good reference material if anyone were to draw the antlers in certain angles, I used photos I took of mounts at museums, the one in the front was the one in Vienna where one can take a photo from such an angle when you are in front of the mineral hall.
For artist needs I'd rather recommend Mike Eischen's 3D printed Megaloceros skull, though I don't draw anymore myself.

By the way, out of curiosity, when will the megaloceros be available? If it takes a long time for this figure to reach online stores, I can imagine how long it will take for it to reach physical stores, at least a month or two later.

We sure didn't get many mammals this year, so it would really be welcome very soon.

Mike Walley from ED commented on a post in one of the dinosaur FB groups. He said the megaloceros will be available from ED in a couple weeks.

I think that Papo limited version spinosaurus is not so much "limited version".

@Stolpergeist What a beautiful illustration of them that you've done.

@Dino Scream3232 Good to see some confirmation that it will be releasing soon, and has not been canceled.

So much for the spinosaurus being “Limited Edition”.

Even here in Sicily a small store had two of them. Now I think there's one left.

I have seen at least one online Polish toy store selling that Spino. They got it in stock around four months After ED, and they're constantly restocking it ever since. I was really shocked when I saw it. I mean, we don't even get the most recent CollectA Deluxes here! I really feel like the Spino isn't really that limited After all  :P :P :P

I'm thinking the Spino didn't sell, and now they're spreading them around trying to finish out the run.

What a great news! I hope that one day in my Museum Shop they will have that figure together with the stygimoloch and the feathered velociraptor repainted to comment to the DTF my personal impressions about these figures from seeing them physically. The same can be said for most of the dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals in Collecta 2020.
