Saurolophus (DinoWaurs Survival)

Review and Photographs by Indohyus

When it comes to Hadrosaurs, Parasaurolophus always seems to steal the lime light. The number of figures made of the species is huge, from high end to low end, from adults to juveniles. This leaves many of the rest of the family with very few figures, so any opportunity to grab copies of the more elusive species is often jumped upon. Such is the case with Saurolophus, a Hadrosaur of Late Cretaceous Mongolia, with prices for it’s figures becoming astronomical. Here is a cheaper version of the figure, once more brought to you by DinoWaurs Survival!

Onto the figure! As a DinoWaurs figure, it is pretty small. At 3.2” long and 1.4” from hoof to hump, it is in scale with kaiyodo and other small figure lines, but not much else. Once again, we have an all over colour with shading on wrinkles to help them pop. The colour is a greyish green, which is dull, but works pretty well for what should be a large herbivore. The pose is as if the animal is gently plodding along. Dull, but that’s fine for this figure.

Onto accuracy! Generally speaking, this is pretty good. No shrink wrapping on the body, it is fairly beefy, though the skull doesn’t come out so well. At least the skull is correct, with a small crest and duck-billed skull. The neck to body connection, while technically right, does seem exaggerated and a tad uncomfortable in reality. Overall though, not bad.

Saurolophus is criminally under represented in the toy market, so I am glad that DinoWaurs included this species, and made a great job of it. Detail is great, accuracy is near enough spot on and it is fairly inexpensive to get. These are blind bag figures, so eBay or Dejankins are your best bets if you want this figure for your dinosaur menagerie. Happy hunting!
