It is a warm sunny day and you are walking across your backyard enjoying the comfort of the warming rays upon your skin.  You suddenly feel a chill run up your spine, as you have a sudden sensation of being watched.  Unknown to you, a plastic creature is staring at you from the foliage.  She is a huge, scary carnivore with teeth maxing out a 7 mm long.  It is a hunter waiting to pounce and chomp down on whatever animal is next on the food chain !  Today I introduce  the Thrash ‘N Throw Tyrannosaurus rex by Mattel!

As we all are aware the T-rex is a celebrity character, a nightmare hunter, and the largest most formidable fighting animal that has ever existed.  With it monstrous size the tyrant king is not an animal you want to come face to face with unless it is just a skeleton at the museum.  For Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, Mattel has multiple t-rex’s for their toy line up.  Let’s take a closer look at a figure that is bigger than the Extreme Chompin rex, but not quite a Super Colossal Tyrannosaurus rex toy.

About the toy:  When I first took it out of the package I was amazed by the scary face, as it looked tough enough to chomp a animal in half.  It is a  huge toy that can do lots of things.   If  you pull the tail down, the head and torso lifts up and gives a king sized roar.  She lets you know that she is the ruler of the cretaceous! If you pull the tail up, the head will go down, and it will give a snap bite.  When it bites she give a different roar.  That’s not all!  When you pull the tail left or right, the torso and head will turn the opposite way.  As it goes side to side it makes a sound that sounds like a sniff.  If you look at the bottom of the feet you will see  a button on one of them and when it is pressed it will make the stomping sound.

The articulation on the toy is good.  As mentioned above the torso and head are able to move by use of the tail.  The mouth opens, closes, and will do a snap bite.  The tiny arms can go around and around.  The legs have multiple locked positions that they can be moved to.  The feet twist all the way around.   The toy stands for me so it is stable enough.

The texture and detail is cool.  She is an old and battle tested T-rex that has scars all over.  There are scars on her head, neck, flank, legs, and tail.  That’s to be expected after taking on Velociraptors and the Indominus rex in previous Jurassic Park/World movies.  Over the eyes are the scary yet beautiful horns.  Underneath the horns the big eyes are facing forward which means it has binocular vision.  The T-rex toys from Jurassic World did not have the eyes facing forward so good job Mattel for doing it right.  The top row of teeth stick out of the mouth and looks fierce.  No lips covering those huge teeth.

The colors on the T-rex start with dark brown on its back and nose.  Blending between the dark brown and the light brown is a reddish brown color that extends down on its neck and torso.  The rest of the head, neck, torso, arms, legs, and tail are light brown.  The lower jaw is a light sandy brown while the under side is slightly darker sandy brown.  There is some blending of colors where they meet.  The eyes are yellow, teeth are white , and the mouth is pink. The toe claws are dark but the finger claws are not painted a different color as the arm.

Playability:  This toy is 1000 percent fun.  Every time I chomp a dinosaur I feel like I am in dinosaur history.  You can put a dinosaur in its mouth and shake it till it flies out.  Really fun.  She always beats me in a staring contest because she never blinks.  The sound effects sound real to the movies.  It is a safe toy to use.  The teeth are soft and the claws are blunt so there is no danger for younger kids.

“What big teeth you have,” said the little Schleich Velociraptor.
“The better to eat you with,” roared the T-rex.

On the left foot is a tag that can be scanned into the free Jurassic World app. This is the same with many of the JWFK toys.  This brings a virtual version of the dinosaur into play onto your device.  If you need to replace the battery, it is housed on the belly between the legs and next to the speaker.

Overall:  She is what a toy should be.  It moves, its roars, it bites, and is fun for kids of all ages.  It offers both sound and articulation. The dino can open and close its mouth to allow it to grab other figures and items. When you move the tail side to side, the head thrashes from side to side.  Think Ed Regis sitting on the throne in Jurassic Park.  The seams on the neck and torso are more than little annoying to look at if you want it for display but this toy is made for play and that is where it shines.  I would recommend this toy for playing and having fun.
