Aucasaurus (DinoWaurs Survival)

I always like it when companies try out species that have never been made into figures before, as it gives people a chance to learn about new species and expand their knowledge. I have stated many times that I love the DinoWaurs Survival for this and continue to do too. This review covers another dino that only they have done (as far as I am aware anyway): Aucasaurus, an Abelisaurid from Argentina, one of the most complete Abelisaurids ever found.

To the figure itself! At 2.8” long and 1.8” high, this is as small as most the rest of the DinoWaurs line, and shares their mono colour scheme, this time in dark green alongside the amazing shading effects, plus the colouring of the mouth. The pose is very dynamic, roaring into the air, possibly scaring off a rival (imagine a pair would look great). Despite the stance, it stands pretty well unaided.

Onto accuracy. With the complete specimens available, you’d think this would be a decently accurate figure, even for a blind bag figure, and some does stand up. The length of the tail, neck and body seems right, and the skull is decently boxy, but could go further. Where it really fails is in the arms. Abelisaurids are well known for having shorter arms than Tyrannosaurs, but the arms on this figure are huge, seeming to go for more of an Allosaur style. I may fix it with scissors.

While decently accurate, the arms and skull cause it to be generic theropod number 42, really bringing the figure down in my opinion. As the only Aucasaurus widely available on the market, there aren’t many other options. I say if you want it, get it, otherwise avoid.
