While Jurassic World popularized the idea of genetically modified dinosaur hybrids, Kenner beat them to the idea over 17 years prior with the Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect line, a mix of crazy hybrids and similarly crazy repaints of old figures. Although at the time they were an underselling line, some figures have now been considered classic such as the Alpha Velociraptor.

In terms of sculpt, this figure is the exact same as the original Jurassic Park and Lost World Velociraptor. It also shares the same action feature, with its mouth opening and head lowering the more you squeeze on its legs. However, the action feature is rather flawed on mine, as I have struggled to use it. The picture below is the furthest its head can open without assistance. Also, the more I press on the legs, the more I’m concerned for them warping.

This toy measures 4 1/2 inches tall and 10 inches long. For the color scheme, the back is black with tons of stripes that are either blue or yellowish-green. The lower half of the body and the limbs are blue with black stripes. For some, this color scheme looks silly and over the top, which it is, but I quite love it. The colors just pop so much and I find them more interesting than the original Velociraptor. It also shares the two screw holes on its belly that the Lost World version has. For accuracy, it’s obviously far from what an actual Velociraptor looks like, but this is a Jurassic Park toy.

For my final thoughts, it’s a figure that has the same cool sculpt as the original Velociraptor, but with colors that are way more interesting. It’s not for everyone, especially people who like more grounded and realistic dinosaurs, or anything remotely scientifically accurate. This figure may not be for them. It’s for fans of the Jurassic Park franchise, and specifically the Chaos Effect line. If you want to buy this guy, then eBay is your best shot. On eBay, it can cost between $25-$40 out of package (and in varying conditions), but one that is mint in package can go up to $100.
