Dinosaur Bath Buddies (Little Hero)

As a young child, I loved splashing around in the tub with my toys. Who didn’t? Most of my bath toys were sharks and whales and other aquatic creatures, but occasionally a plesiosaur would find its way into the mix. My older son, however, enjoys taking his bath with the Classic Big Four: Brontosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus rex.

These Bath Buddies, as they’re called, are made by a company called Little Hero. They are made of soft, rubbery plastic and each feature a tiny hole at the front of the mouth for water-squirting purposes. These being baby toys, I’m really not going to dwell much on scientific accuracy in this review. First up is Brontosaurus. This iconic sauropod (and man, am I happy that it’s back!) is about 11 cm long and 7 cm tall. It’s coloured medium purple with black and white eyes and an array of round blue osteoderms on its back. It also features sculpted nostrils and claws and a friendly expression on its face. Due to the elevation of its mouth, it doesn’t squirt very well when held right side up, but it works very well when upside down!

Yes, the figure on the right is actually an Apatosaurus, but whatever.

Next we have Stegosaurus. This 10 cm long thyreophoran is fluorescent yellow with black and white eyes and dark purple for the six plates and four spikes, sculpted claws, a very chubby build, and again a pleasant expression on its face. I should also note that the water-squirting function works best with this one.

Third in the group is Triceratops. It too measures 10 cm long and is cyan in colour with brown horns and black and white eyes. With its wide, fat face, it’s arguably the cutest of this lot. Just look at those stubby little horns!

And last, but certainly not least, is Tyrannosaurus rex! This one is in an upright Godzilla pose, which gives it a height of 9 cm and a length of 10 cm. As befits a ferocious theropod, its main colour is bright red with black and white eyes and a row of triangular orange osteoderms running down its back. The hind claws are rounded and there are three fingers on each hand, but we all know this is meant to be the tyrant lizard. Unlike its friends, this dinosaur has sharp teeth sculpted in its mouth and prominent brow ridges that give it a decidedly less friendly appearance. It’s still very cute though. Like the Brontosaurus, it squirts best when held upside down.

And there you have it, friends. Naturally, these four dinosaur toys aren’t aimed at older collectors, but if you’ve got a little one in your family, or if you enjoy a little harmless bathtub fun, then I highly recommend them!
