Wilson was one of my Christmas presents, a fantastic model which I was itching to do a little work on however I had to wait until my work area (the kitchen) was cleared. Apparently Christmas dinner was more important  ;D

Having helped with the washing up (yes I was THAT desperate to make a start lol) I set up my painting area and got to work.

I had 4 areas I wanted to improve :-

1) The joint between his head and body.
2) Fix and fill his jaw.
3) Fill the gap inside his mouth between teeth and mouth side.
4) Remove the letters on his belly side.

I have just finished him. All easy jobs to do and well worth the effort.

John :)

As a big fan of 'Winter Wilson',  thank for sharing these pictures. Hope that you enjoyed the meal, BTW, and won't have to let out the belt too much.

I can't decide what's more impressive, the sculpting/blending adding correct texture, the color matching to where you can't tell from factory and mixed by you, or the fact that your working with paint brushes on a figure that was painted with airbrushes.  Another home run! Fantastic work!

BTW, where do you get all the bases?  Are you making those from scratch?  and if you are what are you using to make them and how do you secure your figures on them?  Hope your holidays are going well and happy new years! :)

Thank you CARNOTAURUS :)

My holidays are going great, Happy New Year to you sir.  :)

I do make the bases from scratch, I try to get them to look the same as those produced by Gamers Grass so I use their range of tufts and rocks.

First off choose the base size you want for your model, I use ones from ebay but they are available from lots of wargaming and model shops/suppliers.

I paint the base black then once dry I paint the top. Add the rocks at this stage, super glue is best for this.

Once dry I coat the top in PVA glue then sprinkle fine, dry sand over it. This is left over night to set. The sand is then painted with a watered down paint, I use burnt umber for the 'green' type bases.
Once dry I dry brush the sand in a light brown.

'Grass' is added using a static grass applicator, this is easy to do but not so easy to explain in words so best to google it and watch videos.

Add tufts to suit.

The model can be pinned or super glued into place.

I hope this helps, John :)

It's a pretty painstaking job and hobby of yours. Honestly, I like your technique, I am also bothered by the articulated jaws, especially of theropods, and I dislike the commercial letters that have the figures of prehistoric toy animals. I congratulate you, it's super cool.

Thank you Shonisaurus.

The quality of the figures, their beautiful sculpting, makes it well worth the effort. Also, the closer I inspect them the more I appreciate them.

John :)
