And so another icon passes on.  :( She made it to a good age, at least, but she will be missed.

That's unfortunate, at least she didn't die young. My thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

Sad to read about, but yes, 82 is a good age, given how many people die young.

RIP Raquel Welch.

In light of this news I went ahead and watched One Million Years B.C. last night. That and Fantastic Voyage are the only Welch movies that I believe I've seen. Oh, and Legally Blonde, apparently.

Very sad news, Ray Harryhausen said she was always very professional on the film although she wasn't too happy about it.

I think I've seen that Western she was in from the early 70s, pretty gritty film as far as I recall and also the episode of Seinfeld where she attacks George and Elaine  :D

She had a talent for comedy and the UK Guardian film critic said he wished she had done more.

Quick edit - it was Kramer she attacked in Seinfeld and I forgot about the Three Musketeers 1970s versions - good films.

Here's a nice obituary on her:

She was in a lot of TV, I'm sure I've seen her on something or other but was too young to recognize her.

She also guest-starred on an episode of The Muppet Show with numbers alongside Fozzie, Piggy and a giant spider. She looked like she had fun with it too:

I always admired her, smart as well as beautiful plus classy, refused to appear nude in film or print. Turned Playboy down 57 times and when she finally agreed still refused to be nude so the photos were never used. RIP

Well, her father was Bolivian (their last name was Tejada), so she was probably raised in a very conservative Catholic home, I've read that her father incredibly strict and hard on them.  I think her mom was from the midwest.

Yes she is quoted as saying she refused to do it out of respect and even fear of what her father would think. She said she even resented him from time to time but she continued to hold to those principles even after his death saying that was the type of girl she was. Considering how some women have been forced to do things they didn't want to do on screen and later regretted it I respect her for sticking to her convictions and also being a role model.
