TRIVIA---the 1957 Walt Disney movie OLD YELLER was about a young Texas boy and his beloved dog, Old Yeller, in 1860s Texas. At the movie's end end, Old Yeller saved the boy from a rabid wolf, but the dog was bitten by the wolf and became infected with rabies. Old Yeller was shot to end his suffering. The movie was the fifth highest-grossing movie of 1957 and in 2019 was added to the Library of Congress' National Film Registry.
Old Yeller was played by a yellow Mastador named Spike. Before Spike became famous in OLD YELLER, he appeared in the 1956 B monster movie THE SHE-CREATURE in which a hypnotist used hypnotic regression on a woman to regress back to her past life as a prehistoric creature. The hypnotist then used the creature to commit murders. The hypnotist hypnotized Spike into attacking the woman's boyfriend, but she used her own hypnotic power to stop Spike from killing her boyfriend.
The prehistoric creature, nicknamed "Cuddles", was designed by famous visual effects artist Paul Blaisdell, who also designed creatures for other B monster movies including IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE (the inspiration for ALIEN), DAY THE WORLD ENDED, IT CONQUERED THE WORLD and many others. Blaisedell said Cuddles was his favorite creature design.
