Hello, all! It's been a really long time since I last posted, but I've got the sort of question that you fine folks are best qualified to answer so I figured the time has come to stop lurking.

I'm headed out to a conference in France this summer and decided that I should take the opportunity to tour Europe. It occurred to me this morning that a good idea might be to organize the trip around natural history museums. I know about the Museum of Natural History in London and the Museum fur Naturkunde in Berlin, but other than that I'm at a loss. If I were to make this happen, where would you all recommend I go?

Thanks in advance for the tips!

Hi,
you could go to the Muséum National D'Histoire Naturelle in Paris (France), Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen in Brussel (Belgium), and I have been to Naturalis in Leiden, Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht both in the Netherlands. Maastricht is more about Mosasaurs. there is also The Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam, both that didn't have much fossils, and De Groene Poort in Boxtel is supposed to have a big collection, but i have never been there yet. both are also in the Netherlands. In Germany the Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde in Stuttgart seems to be another nice msueum. all in al there are so much good fossil museums in Europe, you could be here for a whole year and not having seen al of them.

I would recommended to go  Museum of Natural History in London. It  maintain and develop  collections, and use them to promote the discovery, understanding, responsible use and enjoyment of the natural world.

Based on what I've read, the Natural History Museum in Brussels (To quote Rey, "The -definitively- best dinosaur museum in Europe"), the Oxford Natural History Museum (To quote Rey, "Definitively the best in England"), & Dinosaur Isle ( http://chasmosaurs.blogspot.com/2012/06/dinosaur-isle.html ) should be of particular interest.

I'm going to Berlin for a few days, visiting the Humboldt University museum.
Anyone wants me to take pics of anything special?

amargasaurus cazaui

Definitely some pictures of the centerpiece mount, the largest mounted land animal in the world and, if they have some to share, anything that would be considered a basal ceratopsian. Thats my wishlist please !!!
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

Of course :)! It's conspicuous ;D.
The new mount is terrific (thanks to the American scientists who did that)!
