So lets see... if I use profanity, I get myself kicked off the forum immediately. But if I just show up, make promises, steal money from the members, delivering either nothing or vastly inferior recasts, I'm still in good standing? ???

I think people should listen to Shane. The guy is bad news. He has ripped people off and is probably on some other forum somewhere pulling the same bull.  Yep, I think the guy should be booted for life and other dino-philes not here should be alerted.
I think the admins should have a meeting and come up with a rule that people, when they join, should have to spend a certain about of time here, with a certain amount of posts (and not just simple "me too" posts) to assure loyalty to the membership before they be allowed to sell.

IMHO.
OK, I'm off the soapbox.

PS - yes I also think that selling recasts should also be grounds for a permanent ban. They guy is basically selling what don't belong to him = stealing...
Actually I have noticed there has been an instance of another member using profanity more than once, and, despite being warned about it, continued to do so, and has not been banned (and these were strong swear words such as the F and S words, and it was in the presence of children). Even though it says in the rules that only one use of such strong words is grounds for an instant ban...

Maybe the rules need updating in regards to re-casters.

Exactly. I agree that the rules should be updated to include this and this person should be banned.

I just remembered that there is a little disclaimer in the Classifieds section:
QuotePost auction and store links, wants lists, and trade here. The Dinosaur Toy Forum/Blog holds no responsibility for transactions between members; all trades and sales are done at the members' own risk.

Just something to keep in mind :-X

I did not puchase anything from this man and chose not to. I do think that when you cross a street you should look both ways and consider carefully before posting ideas or thoughts in a public forum that could be used as grounds for slander or libel legal action.
It seems likely this person is selling recasted pieces that are not his own and has managed to cheat some forum members as well. Everything seems to indicate precisely that......the only thing I wish to point out here is we have no direct knowledge what happened between Brian, Matt, and this other person. We are taking their word for this matter without any proof or having seen for ourselves. There are ALWAYS two sides to every story and we may or may not be getting a factual version of the matter or there may be more than we know so far. The point is we do not KNOW ourselves.
I do know the forum forbids personnal attacks on other members....and there is no proviso for IF someone feels it is deserved or otherwise. We once discussed having a thread to post warnings about people who dealt unfairly with forum members and I disagreed with it then, because as I said then, it is quite possible that someone could be defamed or put out of business without fair cause. There was alot of lofty talk then about the kind of world we live in. This ongoing discussion is precisely what I had hoped could be avoided in the forum.
We do know this man has apparently taken peoples money and not delivered...however he has also tried to make right to some of them seemingly and said he wants to do the right thing. I myself do not know what led to his actions and I refuse to assign him the worst possible level based on a glance. What if he lost his family in an accident? What if he became terminally ill? You dont know and until you do you cannot judge....when I was at the losing end of a transaction with another member I left them a negative feedback but refused to SPECULATE why or to assign him the worst possible case for this reason. Until you know the why and how, you are guessing and if you are willing to post that publicly or to other people in my opinion you are no better than that person.
Do we know for a fact these pieces being sold are recasts or just secondary pieces that were not up to par left over from earlier dealings when Mannit was involved? Do we know why the remaining members have not been given their pieces yet? How much are we assuming worst case here and how much is fact?
The forum has a feedback area for handling this very situation. In addition if you were taken for a ride by this person, you should be able to follow up through paypal, or provided you used a credit card, through your card issuer. In many cases even money orders are backed against fraud. There are many avenues to pursue if you were one of those who got taken in. I am genuinely sorry for those that were and hope they get a full return of what was taken from them. I just do not agree that a mob mentality and character assasination are productive, fruitful or in any way follow the forums best wishes or intentions. I just hoped we lived in a little better world than that.

Oh man! The story's escalating. I don't think we'll ever hear from "Captian Jack - Brian" again here :-\.

After checking the substance of all the evidence it should even be considered to ban him C:-)!

....... that's strange - the guy sent me models that I love ... I'm not really the one who should complain, but I'm sorry ... we have rules.

I'm not trying to defend the guy, but what rules has he broken? (I'm not trying to criticise, just wondering) :) Is the selling of recasts enough to warrant a ban?

Quote
1. No intentional personal attacks.

2. No profanity, pornography or spam.

3. Only one account per person.

4. Respect designated topic areas (categories and threads).

5. We ask members to please use basic grammar and punctuation.

6. The forum should not be regarded as a general social media site - excessive off-topic posts are not allowed.

7. Topics concerning politics and religion are discouraged.

A breach of rules 1-3 will result in an immediate ban. Breach of rules 4-7 will result in a warning or a ban depending on the particulars.

Hm, in fact you are defending the guy :) but that's not a crime, everybody is entitled to a defense lawyer.

....... and I would classify stealing someone's money as an intentional personal attack (violation of rule No.1)!

This means that you can't blame the forum and its administrators for the money you might loose in such transactions. It doesn't mean that crooks have a free ticket to play the forum members false repeatedly.

After getting low-class resins from "Stone troll studios" and reading all the other stuff here I think I have the right to say that - in a very factual way. I'm not angry at all and I protestingly have to reject the charge of having a mob mentality >:( ;D .... I'm such a far cry from that.

Fair enough Postsaur, I was not actually referring to you. You had seemed quite content with your models and never complained until everyone else did....Even then, if you were sent such low quality models, did you attempt to contact Matt and ask about the issue? Was he given a chance to address the problem and failed to answer? Your posting lacks that information. I would have guessed you did so and he did not answer, which does look bad on his part and at that point I would be annoyed to, however you failed to state that.
Even then, it would be far better handled through paypal, as merchandise that was not as stated. Just not sure that publicly attacking someone in the forum is the best method for handling a grievance, especially when the forum specifically states not to air personnal drama against others.
I do know you are a solid man yourself Helge and deal with others very fairly and I appreciate that in our dealing we had.I apologize if I offended you, I will not comment further to the issue.

I don't want to take centre stage in this discussion ;D, but I have to answer one more time.

I stepped into this because of the alarming facts Shane and Simon wrote about.
As I wrote before: I do not complain (because I have helping hands like Martin's or Noora's    .....  did I already mention that I'm soo grateful? ^-^).
But I have an opinion when I'm reading the other posts and sometimes I share it, mostly when I'm involved in a way.
I'm very happy with what the Proto (which was Martin's) is now, so there is no reason for me to contact Paypal or even Brian (not Matt - he obviously has nothing to do with these deals. According to Simon's post he doesn't even allow Brian to sell these casts).

Amarga, you are right: We all do not know each other.
However I haven't felt offended by you at all because I think I know you at least a tiny little bit ;).

Sorry, I don't agree. I was only asking questions. I think this issue was important to understand because I occasionally buy kits on the board, and if something like this happens again I will know how to respond in future.

If he is banned from the board, then so be it.
