If I had enough money to fund a film...

It would have been better-spent. How does crap like this ever get funded? Was it Kickstarter? I can't think of anyone who would want to fund something like this.

(My dream movie would be something traditionally-animated and inspired by the artwork of Gregory S. Paul, but silent and with a narrator. This of course would never happen in real life.)

I've always wondered that myself, where do they get the money for these cheese movies?

well for one thing, they never seem to spend a lot of money on them.  These things either go straight to video or TV, so no one expects them to take in massive amounts of money.  Expect at least 90% of the movie to be comprised of dull, uncharismatic actors reciting their lines and having contrived conflicts with each other.  Best case scenario is it might somehow be watchable.

Ever notice that when a big hit movie comes out, there's a (clearly knockoff) fake of it that whent right to DVD?

Well it's legitimate enough to put out something similar done on a smaller scale, but there's a few that seem to deliberately set out to mislead the viewer into thinking they are that big new movie everyone's talking about.  Probably not likely to fool you or me, but they seem to rely on deception to bring in a certain amount of their profits.

It'd be nice if they could at least function as movies in their own right.

This doesn't look like a blatant imitation of any popular movie right now, but sometimes it's just down to the packaging.  They'll take the poster of the hyped movie, reuse the font and throw together something with similar colours and imagery.

Didn't the evil empire Disney make a move called planes? And then some other movie comes out called wings, uses the same font and everything. I guess they think families are easy to fool.

There are some who genuinely enjoy the "copycat blockbuster" type of films, like "Transmorphers", "The Starving Games", etc. But there is an element of trickery in there, particularly for, as leidy mentioned, unwitting children or grandparents.

I don't think I'd put this movie in that category though, it seems to have its own identity, cashing in on dinosaur fans in general rather than Jurassic World specifically. It could turn out to be kinda fun, depending on your outlook, and doesn't have the underlying deception of the mimic films.

Because I believe this was debated with you already. You really need to stop trolling.

I think Disney is meh, not a great company by any means, but the overall quality of their films have been improving over the last couple years, every time and again they will make a film I like (Tron series, Wreck it Ralph), but generally I'm just not a fan of them, and as mainstream children's movies go I think they tend to make the worst, so much "younger" than other companies children's films (which generally try and appeal to a wider audience)

I don't think it was trolling (this time), but whatever

I feel confident that if you grew up during the golden age of Disney you would feel differently. Movies like "Aladdin" and "The Lion King" were a pretty big deal when they came out; everyone went to see them, their songs played on the radio. Disney movies were an event to look forward to. Those kinds of movies are few and far between these days with Disney, which is why "Frozen" was so well received, it was a return to form for the company. It's just popular to hate on Disney these days but it was not that way when I was growing up.

Anyway, maybe his original comment was not trolling but having to then ask why no one was commenting on his post certainly is. It indicates that he made the original comment expecting to start a debate and looking for attention, at least in my opinion.

Very true, the recent films however (the majority of them) are not very good.

Agreed.

looks like this is a Disney thread now.

The golden age of Disney was really the 30s and 40s.  Films like Snow White and Dumbo have a ton of charm, then over the years they tend to be more hit and miss, but don't dismiss the hits, some of them were truly brilliant.  Somewhere in the 90s the transformation into the worst kind of cancerous corporate monolith really started to take hold.  But they've always attracted a lot of creative people, so even at worst they still manage to turn out the occasional gem.  They had a string of hits in the early nineties, and they seem to be on a roll again at the moment.  We'll see how long that lasts.

I find they alternate between the kind of film that really is magical, and the worst kind of sloppy sentimental mush that ought to make any sensible person want to vomit rainbows.  Unfortunately even when they're doing really special stuff, there's usually another wing of the company somewhere churning out some of the most crassly commercialized merchandisetainment known to man.

I liked Disney's stuff in the '90s and '80s mostly. The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and others were great movies with good messages.

I suppose you're correct, I should have said the Disney Renaissance which would have been more appropriate for that period in the late 80's and early 90's.
