This new strip mall has a nice bronze statue of the Tualatin Mastodon, whose bones can be viewed at the Tualatin Library and whose tusks are at the Historical Society's House where I sometimes perform with my theater troupe. Inside the Cabelas, which is an outdoor store that sells weapons (if you're a friend on FB, you know how much I hate weapons), you'll find a bunch of record holding stuffed animal kills and some bones of ancient animals that lived in the area. There is a full mount of the Cave Bear and apparently the mural artist has hidden the Big Foot figure in the murals. You're supposed to find them and win something, I think.

But the Tualatin Mastodon is adorable and the plaque is dedicated to educators everywhere.

This area is all marshy and ancient. If we hadn't paved all over it I'm sure we could find more Mastodons and so forth. :( Too bad I suck at math and at geology and hate the outdoors, but I wish I could just send tons of people all over to comb the marshes for ancient animal bones.
