Any progress on either project yet? I am very curious what you are up to and how it's working out  :)

Either fluffy and long, short or bald and ratty or whatever it will be  :D

There has been progress, in fact.  I have around 90% of the Barylambda covered in fur detail. There are obvious touch ups I need to do to satisfy me and the base hasn't been started yet. This taken me over a year to finish this piece. But, I will not stop until I am satisfied that it is realistic and as scientifically accurate as possible. I made some photocopies of Sarkastodon in 1/20-scale to work off of. I need to make a photocopy of a Patriofelis skeleton in 1/20-scale to base my post-cranial reconstruction on.

The Sarkastodon I am making will have short stiff fur (I have become quite good at creating this effect) and a long thin tail. I will not make it bear-like but rather long and low, like other creodonts.  This will not be a big piece at around 6 inches long and 2 inches high at the shoulder. Neither is the Barylambda at over 5 inches long and a little over 2 inches high at the shoulder. But, just because they are small, I still put a lot of effort into detail.

I will be gone next week on a river clean up but will start the Sarkastodon sometime in late July.

Thanks everybody for your interest and the pictures you posted and the suggestions you made are immensely valuable for me to get these projects off the ground!

Any suggestions as to what kind of base scenery I should put these creatures on?  I was thinking of having the Bary stand on the edge of a body of water with part of a fallen bald cypress next to it. I don't know about the Sarkastodon yet.

The latest on this piece. I know it isn't the most exciting critter out there, but this project has really helped me develop as a sculptor. Besides, you have to crawl before you can walk. Just needs some finishing touches and a base.

In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.
