Here is a link to a review of a new book entitled "So You Want to be a Palaeontologist?" written by Dr. David Penney (Manchester University).  It sets out the sort of roles palaeontologists undertake and provides guidance on how to become a palaeontologist.  If you ever wondered how to turn a fascination with dinosaurs and fossils into a career, then this book is well worth checking out.

Hope this helps.

If only this book was published 20-25 years ago.  Probably too late for me now since I'm only 6 years from retirement in my current occupation.  Not sure if I'd want to relocate and start a second career thereafter.   :-\

But thanks for the link.   ;)

Have your read Larson/Donnan's Bones Rock!: Everything You Need to Know to Be a Paleontologist ( http://www.amazon.com/Bones-Rock-Everything-Need-Paleontologist/dp/193122935X )? If so, how do you think it compares to Penney's book?

Actually, palaeontologist was one of my first career aspirations. I even took a look into the rooms and the work of the geological/palaeontological institute of the Münster university before I eventually studied teaching post, which I broke off to become a social worker.
I always kept my passion for palaeontology, yet chemistry and stuff were much too complicated for me.
To make it short: I´ll have a look into this book!
