Stupid question - what material did you use for the skin etc?  I've been thinking about making my own model but I'm not sure what to use.

I'm pretty sure that if you look at the background of the photograph, you can see he used epoxy putty- more specifically, Aves Apoxie Sculpt in natural colour.

tyrantqueen is right, I used Aves Epoxy Sculpt. It was not the optimal choice for the skin though, since my model is so large and I did big areas at a time I had problems with the curing time although it is workable for several hours. Shouldn´t be a problem for doing smaller surfaces though. You can smooth it with water and your fingers.

I´d like to try Kato Polyclay, it´s what Forest Rogers uses for the Carnegie model masters. I believe it stays soft and workable until you bake it in the oven, so the curing time should be (almost) infinite if desired.

Super Sculpey and Sculpey Firm are good. I think Ana from the ATF uses it for sculpting her animals.

Kato Polyclay is good, I definitely would recommend it. It is what I use for my models.

Will you make more models? I would love to see a 1/40 scale Magyarosaurus :).

Certainly not anytime soon as I´m far too busy. Even then, Magyarosaurus isn´t on my to-do-list. Far too small in 1/40. ;) He would be a good candidate for a shapeways model.

Beautiful sculpture! I wish you could do one in 1/20-scale. I'd buy it!

Thanks a lot! ^-^

Sorry but no way, I based mine on an estimated length of 35m, in 1/20 the metal "spine" would be 1.75m long! :o And even in 1/40 - although I tried to keep the weight down - it´s pretty heavy, 8 times as much in 1/20 and you´ll need a wheelbarrow to move it around! :))

Dang!  Can't say I didn't try. Still a very beautiful work of art. I'm envious of your skill.

Taking dinosaurs of this islandis the worst idea in the long, sad story of bad ideas

Thank you.

The build time is hard to estimate, I started it in April or May and finished it in September. During the first three months I could only work on it on weekends, during summer any day I wanted to. So I really cannot tell how many hours it took, but: MANY. ;)

I hate trying to figure up how many hours a project took..makes it sound like work too much and sucks the fun out of it trying to keep track. General estimates are fine, especially if not getting paid.. lol  ;)
