Nice to know the project is still alive and well. I love mammoths, and would be elated to know they were (partially) resurrected in my time.

As I understand it they are only attempting to create an embryo at this point and do not intend to create an actual animal at this point.

"What do they got in there, King Kong?"
We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free." - King Kong, 2005

I think a more fitting quote would be:
"You just went and made a new mammal? Probably not a good idea."
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

That's funny...there was something in the paper about how an introduction into the wild would benefit the tundra by the mammoths feeding activities releasing cold air from the snow and clearing trees and grass in the summer!

Na, it would probably have Cave Lion DNA and will then take over the pack of Cave Lions unleashed to hunt it.

But seriously, I don't think that it will be much different from being a normal elephant.

It would be cool to see Mammoths alive. They are one of my favorite ice age animals.

Genetic diversity is going to be an issue.  If it's just the one sample of Blood the Nucleus of the Mammoth has been retrieved from and there are plans to breed the Elephant-Mammoth Hybrid with another Elephant-Mammoth Hybrid then; there'll be need for another Nucleus from another Blood Cell in order to not risk inbreeding or any such thing to go wrong.

An interesting article by paleoanthropologist John Hawks addresses some of the serious issues with the way this story has been publicized: "How Mammoth Cloning Became "Fake News"
