Hello community,

I recently realized that the number in votes on the DTB varies greatly. While some reviews seems to have gained high attention and achieved a great number of votes (<100) and/or comments (<10), others seem to have been barely noticed, at least judged by the votes and/or comments left.

This may be related to temporal fluctuations in the activity of members and guests, or maybe to the matter of which species is reviewed, which brand or figure, or which author writes the review,... or something else.

I am curious, so I created this poll, my very first, so excuse in advance if there are any shortcomings. At the time of writing this, 127 users logged in to the forum, for me personally a visti of the forum includes a visit of the blog if there's a new entry,.... how's it for you?

Thanks in advance for your participation :)

PS: Votes are only visible for admins, results can be seen by anyone.

I just read and vote on whatever interests me

I read reviews selectively.  If the subject is from a company that doesn't interest me at all, I'll probably just open the review and glance at it to check I'm not missing anything.  I won't vote.  If it's from a company I've never heard of, I'll check it out carefully to see if it's something I should look out for.  I might vote on the basis of the review and the photos.  If it's from a company whose models I collect, I will always read it, and usually vote.  However, I might wait until I actually own the model myself before voting. If it's a model I have, I will almost always vote.  Basically I guess I vote if it's something that interests me.  I will also occasionally write a comment on the blog - again, if it's a model that particularly interests me or I think the review is particularly well done.

I try to catch all the new reviews but think I perhaps occasionally miss the odd one, now that I don't get an e-mail telling me a new one has gone up.

One thing I use the reviews for is record keeping.  I keep files with sections for each of my models in alphabetical order, each genus separated by a divider.  I try to have a printed photo of each model.  I like to print off the DTF reviews and file them in these sections.

I'm a beginner, so I use the reviews in different ways:
I start somewhere  and read  some reviews  - can't take my books always with  me  :)
When buying, I look for others opinions.

By the way: I don't own a computer, so everything goes by smartphone ...
Body count: 34/28 species

I read the ones that interest me. Mainly fish ones and more unique creatures. When I notice. The Facebook posts usually catch my attention more than any other, and I'll read them if the subject matter interests me.

I think I've voted...once.

I read reviews of figures that I'm interest to get and the ones that I'm unsure if I want them or not. Mainly from the major brands like Safari, Papo and CollectA.

CityRaptor

I read what interests me and will also vote accordingly.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I used to read them all but with so many being posted so often I cannot keep up. I read the ones on figures I have, intend to get, or wanted to review myself but missed the chance. It also depends on who wrote the review, there are some reviewers where I read all their stuff. I vote pretty often though.

It's a bigger challenger now to read the large number of blog postings, both because of the sheer number as well as the fact that for quite some time now the thoroughness of each has been increasing - no more stub reviews. Nevertheless I strongly believe that the effort is rewarding, informative and vital in keeping a sense of community, as opposed to a loose aggregation of individualists. For a lengthy period of time people in the "west" have been decrying the loss of community, alienation and the spread of hyper-individualism (solipsism). Here is an opportunity to support each other and defeat this tendency.

Yes, at times one won't read a posting, for various reasons. I get it - I'm always pressed for time, like most of us. But I get reminded, when reading the DTF, how fiercely passionate many are about collecting and therefore have a sense of what goes into doing a review on the DTB. At the end of the day I am grateful for all of the postings and want to express my appreciation to the reviewers. I always find it sort of melancholy when a reviewer drops out, for one reason or another and no longer posts. I miss the uniqueness of their personalities, especially some of the old stalwarts from the earliest days of the blog, when I hovered in the Oort cloud of "lurkers."

Wouldn't it be interesting to see more people voting and commenting here? No traffic here for eight months...

Undoubtedly always vote in dinotoyblog.com and sometimes I provide my opinion about the product.

As for the dinosaur surveys of which company I like the most, I tend to be quite regular when it comes to voting and sometimes I give my opinion.

Fembrogon

I read a lot of reviews, but not all of them; certain brands like Safari ltd. I always pay attention to, while other times I just read whatever catches my eye. Sometimes I also go through the archives for reference.
Voting, I do very little of. I tend to only vote on figures I own myself, so I know I am judging fairly. I actually use reviews here to decide on purchases sometimes!

Shonisaurus

I like certain toy dinosaur companies, Safari, Schleich, Collecta, Mojo, Papo, Rebor, Vitae, PNSO, Recur, Beasts of the Mesozoic, Nanmu Studio and Favorite and until Bullyland ceased to exist I was also interested. Honestly and I know that it is reprehensible I am not very interested in the figures of JW and JP.
