A new postcranial skeleton of Aristonectes has been described from the López de Bertodano Formation of Seymour Island, Antarctica. This new skeleton represents the heaviest known member of both the genus Aristonectes and the family Elasmosauridae. This discovery suggests that elasmosaurids achieved maximum body size during the end Cretaceous (Campanian-Maastrichtian) and that aristonectines still appear at higher latitudes.
