Hello forum,

I recently bought a Horizon Original Stegosaurus on ebay and while I haven`t build it yet and it is quite outdated, I am very interested in the other models by the same company. I know they produced JP dinosaurs but I am not a great JP fan, so not very interested in those. I also know of a Tyrannosaurus (as it is shown on the instruction paper of the stego), an Apatosaurus and a Plesiosaurus/Elasmosaurus. Searching the internet did not bring up a lot of information, well the Elasmosaurus is on the blog, but it says it`s a resin model, while the others are vinyl?! It seems today there are several other comapnies around with the same name that are not related to the original Horizon Hobbies and Toys from California and I read here on the forums, that the company went out of business somewhen in the 90`s (more or less before the real "internet hype").

So, does anyone of you have links or even photos of Horizon dinosaur models? Thanks in advance.

I have an unbuilt kit of this one from 1992 (great condition but unfortunately no box) in case you're interested.

The Horizon Resin Elasmosaurus was a very limited release (mainly created to promote the vinyl kit).
I have the vinyl one.

Of the old Vinyl serie I know of the :
- Stegosaurus
- Apatosaurus
- T-rex
- Elasmosaurus

They are actualy quite common on ebay.

There is a huge 1 meter Vinyl model serie consists of :
- Triceratops
- Velociraptor
- T-rex

They cost a lot and need large  space to be presented in.

And there's also the JP Vinyl serie :
- Brachiosaurus ( about 80 cm high )
- T-rex
- Dilophosaurus
- Velociraptor (?)

I think this seller has or has just sold several of those models

..from the Chris Darga' line of big models, there was also "Baby T-Rex"/Ref. 55701 and "Styracosaurus"/Ref. 55704 (about the last one, I've never saw a picture of it on-line..).

Thanks for all the information and links, really appreciated. The JP stuff is not my cup of tea in these days anymore, but those others, outdated as they may be are really nice ones. Thanks again for all your input :)

I have a spare brontosaurus in the box, never opened other than to inspect the contents. I was going to buikd a dinotopia figure out of it, but id be willing to sell it if you need one
I'm seeking Orsenigo and other interesting vintage dinosaurs. Contact me if you can help with my search!

avatar_Archinto @Archinto: Thanks for that kind offer.... I think though, with the quite high shipping costs from the US to Central Europe (and customs taxes to add on top) would ruin most deals.

Hmm, not sure why this thread was bumped but I noticed that the Horizons on Ebay Germany went up in price. Last year they were sold at around 12 - 13 Euros, but the recent ones sold for 25 Euros. Also all of those seem to be the Stegosaurus.  Wonder if that is due to people having more time due to Corona...

Also noticed that the artworks featured on the boxes of 2 of  the 3 AMT kits ( which are Airfix-reissues ) are obviously based on the Horizons:

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no
