TRIVIA---in 1975, Universal Pictures planned to make THE LEGEND OF KING KONG, a remake of the original 1933 KING KONG. Two-time Academy Award-winner William Goldman (BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN) would write the script, Joseph Sargent (THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE) would be the director and Jim Danforth (WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH) would be the special effects director. However, Universal cancelled the remake when Paramount Pictures/Dino De Laurentiis' 1976 KING KONG was a box office disappointment.
However, Universal never lost interest in a KING KONG remake and later persuaded Peter Jackson to direct the 2005 remake which won three Academy Awards and was among the top five highest-grossing movies of 2005.
The remake's dinosaurs would include:

Ammonite
Archaeopteryx
Arsinoitherium
Baluchitherium
Brontosaurus
Centipede Creature
Dimetrodon
Elasmosaurus
Giant Amphibian
Giant Vulture
Parasaurolophus
Pit Scorpions
Pteranodon
"Reptilian Eel"
Stegosaurus
Triceratops / "Triclonius"
Tyrannosaurus rex
