Best Museum Shops You've Ever Visited?

I am sorely tempted now to try and make a trip down to NYC. I've always loved that city and am overdue for another visit (my previous one was in 2006). And yet I fear my primary reason for wanting to do so is to comb the AMNH gift shops.

Is that a bad thing?

Hands down the best museum gift shop I've been to is at The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philly.  When I was there in 2009 they had a large selection of dinosaur figures and where reasonably price.  Carnegie also has a very nice gift shop, as does the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
I agree. Went there in 2010 and they had a bunch of Safaris, Carnegies, Papos, Collectas, and others too.

AMNH usually has a pretty good selection of Safaris and Carnegies, but it does depend on when you go though. Sometimes the selection is better than others.

A few years ago the AMNH was apparently reluctant to carry the Carnegie line (despite being the best line available) because they didn't want the 'competing' museum being advertised in their museum. As if people (who had already paid) were going to go into a shop, see the Carnegie figures, and then decide to demand their money back and go to Pittsburgh for a different museum instead. Obviously they got over that.

I went to the AMNH in 2002 and the store--even the Dino Shop--were quite poor. The only figures they had were the PV Habitat Earth AMNH dinos (which I had/have no interest in).  Good to know they have improved.

That sounds insanely immature and shortsighted on the AMNH's part.

It was a different time.

Well, I'm about 90% sure I'll be going to NYC in March now. Eager to see all my old friends at the AMNH. And bring home a few new members for my Carnegie collection!

I'm going to be there in only a few weeks, so I'll be able to tell you what it has.

Well, what it had, since I'm probably going to buy most of it.  :P

The museum shop in the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin is very good. Also quite good is the Museum Korbach! No museum, but a park: Dinosaurierpar Münchehagen has a great shop, too. Fits every demand.

Do be so kind as to not clean them out of Carnegie, my good sir. And if they happen to be out of stock, please tell them to get their asses in gear.
