An energy businessman is donating a record $35 million to the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History to build a new dinosaur hall on the National Mall, the museum complex announced Thursday.

The donation by David H. Koch, the executive vice president of Koch Industries Inc. of Wichita, Kan., is the single largest gift in the museum's 102-year history. The Smithsonian Board of Regents voted Monday to name the new dinosaur hall in Koch's honor.

Wow that's amazing! I hope they'll put it to good use.

If only someone here had posted a heads-up about the renovation of the Dinosaur Hall in the British Museum of Natural History in London last year...

Will they use the opportunity to reposition any inaccurate posed Dinosaurs, like they did in Berlin?
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

There wasn't much done to it other than some cleaning and general maintenance, plus some installation of a few interactive monitors.

Maybe so, but they did close the Hall down for it for a month. Just at the time when I finally managed to visit London. :(

Oh well, we'll always have Crystal Palace Park...

Oh, I see; you meant so that you could have been forewarned...  We did mention it in the DTF meet-up threads. I can't recall whether your visit was before or after that event. But it was a bit of a pity for us too. Especially, like you, for the other Dutch and American visitors who made it to the meet-up. :(

That's a shame Roselaar. That's my kind of luck. I went to California, and decided at the last minute to visit the tar pits. Well, I got a chance to see the outside but had to skip the museum there to catch my flight in time.

I'm glad though that somebody with $$$ is helping out paleontology. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to England when it's all done.

There's nothing new being done to the Natural History Museum at the moment. :) The refurbishment mentioned took place last year. So you can visit any time right now without missing anything.  :)

Oh so the $35 million renovation already took place? That's what I was referring to.

That's at the Smithsonian.  :D

Oh, my mistake. Thanks for the correction.
