Anyone else notice the shot of the theropod in London in the new Dr Who Series 8 trailer?

Balaur

I did. I think it had three fingers, so, not Tyrannosaurus? Gigantosaurus?

stargatedalek

it does indeed have only 2 fingers
and just what we need, another crocodile based tyrannosaur
(reminds me of the Primal Carnage tyrannosaurus only more earthy colours)

even still, it will undoubtedly be fun having some more dinosaurs on the show

Good point about the fingers. The size of the arms made me think it would be a carnosaur; I can't think of any tyrannosaur of that size that would have arms that large.

retrosaurus rex tends to have arms like that, the crocodilian scutes are also common

the Primeval rex looks a bit better, if only because it lacks the distinctively crocodilian scutes an instead has more generic "giant scales" scattered across it
it could be representing another species of tyrannosaur (since as of yet the dinosaurs have all held canon with Primeval)

SBell

It's a TV monster. Just like JP makes movie monsters, and Papo makes figures of those monsters (Papo Dig FTW!).

Just like the awkward Triceratops and Pteranodon before, I try not to get too wrapped up in the 'reality' and 'science' within a show about a (now) ~2000 year-old alien Time Lord that regenerates when he dies and travels through time and space in a machine disguised as a blue Police call box from the 60's. ;)

Gigantosaurus is a sauropod, not a theropod.

SBell good point. However at least the past dinosaurs have had some semblance to past reconstructions; I can't think of any pop culture T. rex that's looked like that one.

Jurassic the hunted had a tyrannosaurus like that

Just because nobody's post an image of the creature yet:

Tough to tell what they're going for here. The red on the throat reminds me of the WWD Tyrannosaurus, though.

Oops. I meant Giganotosaurus. Yeah, it's a Tyrannosaurus. Kind of looks, meh...

not the most accurate, but I like it.  The obvious things being the scaliness, and oversized arms.   Something about the lack of S-curve in the neck makes it look a bit clumsy.  That stiff neck and the overall proportions remind me of Neave Parker's Megalosaurus.

SBell

And what could be more British than Megalosaurus on Doctor Who? Even if that dino probably isn't one...
