DinoToyForum

Hi all, I recieved the following interesting enquiry the other day and promised to pass it on to the Dinotoyforum community, just in case anyone here can provide additional information. I doubt any of us have original miniature Crystal Palace Park extinct animals in our collections, but perhaps we have seen some on our travels, or can suggest places to look. If anyone has any suggestions or comments please do respond.

"I'm e-mailing on behalf of UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies with regards to our research into Crystal Palace Park extinct animal models.
In particular we are trying to trace copies of the scaled miniature models which Hawkins made and presented to Owen to seek his scientific approval before making the larger scaled up statues. We are making an inventory of replicas (we think we have traced the originals to the Natural History Museum London). We would be grateful please if you could let us know what you have in your collection. - Simon Jackson"

I made these two pics in Zürich / Switzerland at the Aathal Museum.
They're labelled as "Historic models". Maybe they're originals :-\.
It could be - the person who is responsible for the museum's exhibits is a pretty rich collector.
He even has the original Megalosaurus mandibula fragment :o, as you can see on the pics below.

Didn't Favorite do a line of retro Crystal Palace Park sculptures a few years ago?

I didn't even know these existed. Sounds fascinating, hopefully they'll turn up! :)

They have these models in the Oxford museum too.

I didn't get a close up of the Megalosaurus, but look in the background of this photo and you can see the Meg model:

Hynerpeton

Walking With Monsers:
[about Lystrosaurus] Astonishingly, their vast herds make up more than half of all life on Earth. Never again will a single species do so well.

Walking With Monsters: (Hynerpeton) To avoid injury the males demonstrate their strength  in a strange  push up contest.
