If you're into resin kits and you're within driving distance of Louisville, Kentucky, you should come! It looks like Cretaceous Creations (Shane Foulkes) will be there, as well as paleontologist Michael Ryan and paleo-illustrator William Stout. I went back in 2013 and hopefully can go again this year.

The event is June 4-5. There will also be a dinosaur kit-painting class on June 3.

You guys missed out! I sat in on a very helpful texturing demo by Shane Foulkes, as well as many other informative modeling and painting demos, and saw lots of excellent kits, both for sale in the vendor area and on display in the model contest. Pics to come.

Curious to see your photos, Newt. Being in Germany a visit of Wonderfest was by any means out of my reach :)

I will try to get some pics up soon. I'm surprised there isn't a similar event in Europe, since there seem to be a lot of Europeans interested in the resin kit hobby. A few of them even come to Wonderfest!

Some pics from Shane Foulkes' demo:

Sculpting tools - mostly pretty standard stuff. He did mention a metal taxidermist's tool called an "eye tucker" (not visible in photo) that he uses a lot.

Texturing stamps.

Large texturing stamps. The one on the left is most interesting to me - besides the ball-shaped end, it also has a triangular-cross-section tail piece with textured edges for getting texture into creases and crannies.

For those not familiar with Shane's work, here are some of his kits on display:

More to come!

Yeah...I hope to get some in the future, but I just can't find room in my budget these days. I'll throw up some closeups when I get a chance. In the meantime, here are a bunch of pics from Wonderfest (not by me) to give you a better idea of what's there - dinos are only a small part of the resin kit hobby. Some of these are production kits, others are scratch-built or heavily-modified models. Warning: a few of the models are NSFW.

Speaking of being out of my budget...this life-size Spinosaurus skull-pture was for sale for a measly $8000!
