Playmobil: New for 2018

So the good news is that dinosaurs are returning to the Playmobil universe in 2018! :)

The sad news is that they're all repaints, and all of ones I already own. I was really hoping the Saichania would be in one of these sets. :(

Ah well, guess that's money saved for me. And I will say, the new colour schemes are pretty nice. The theme appears to be along the lines of Doyle's The Lost World, with explorers and poachers encountering dinosaurs amidst ancient jungle ruins.

They look nice, I'll have something to give my nephew who loves Deinonychus!

Yes, they certainly do all look like fun sets, no question there. I completely get the business philosophy behind Playmobil reusing its animal figures; they've been doing that successfully for decades. Nevertheless, it certainly would have been nice to see two or three new dinosaurs. Even retooling the Triceratops into a Styracosaurus would have been nice.

Perhaps they'll add the Saichania to their mail order catalogue.

Playmobil's 2018 catalog is now available for viewing. Again, while these repaints look very nice (except the Triceratops, which is barely different from the original version), I won't be buying any.

Hugely underwhelming. At least the second version of the dinosaur line added (quite a few) new sculpts, though in fairness this line does seem to have the cherry picked best of the former two lines.

Paleodude

I am fairly saddened that the Dimetrodon seems to be missing from the new line despite, in my opinion, being one of the better models to come from Playmobil.

Seemingly came out last year, but I thought it could be interesting for some people here.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no
