These days lycopsids (clubmosses and spikemosses) are mostly low-growing, herbaceous plants. There is one extant group, the quillworts, that produce wood. Back in the Paleozoic, though, there were tons of these things making proper trees and shrubs. Here's one that was semi-herbaceous: Lilingostrobus chaloner:
