Halichoeres

A new horseshoe crab has been discovered in Carboniferous rocks in northeastern Italy, near the border with Austria. Meet Stilpnocephalus pontebbanus ("Glossy-headed [animal] from Pontebba"), a smallish xiphosuran ("swordtail," the scientific name for horseshoe crabs), which either has no eyes or has very small ones that the fossil cannot preserve. The authors infer that it might have been a burrower.
