A massive (2 meters (6 feet) long, more than 1,000 pounds in weight) thigh bone belonging to an as of yet unknown genus of sauropod has been discovered in the Angeac-Charente site in southwestern France. The exceptionally well-preserved find has been dated to the Jurassic period, about 140 million years ago, and came from an animal that might have weighed anywhere from forty to fifty tons. While little is known about the bone or the animal it came from at the moment, more should be learned after it is fully extracted from the rock. Here is an image of the thigh bone still in the site. While there is currently no paper published about this specimen, here is a link to an article from Reuters describing the discovery.
