could anyone list all living modern animals that lived along with prehistoric/extinct ones? example, did the modern musk ox live with woolly mammoths or woolly rhinos? i saw a paleo art of a modern leopard with an African hominid prey. would be of interest when setting up dioramas of figures etc.

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Pretty much every modern animal except domesticated species, and possibly some invertebrates was also around back then and lived alongside prehistoric animals. They have been around a while.
Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Archaeopteryx, Cetiosaurus, Compsognathus, Hadrosaurus, Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Albertosaurus, Herrerasaurus, Stenonychosaurus, Deinonychus, Maiasaura, Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Argentinosaurus, Sinosauropteryx, Microraptor, Citipati, Mei, Tianyulong, Kulindadromeus, Zhenyuanlong, Yutyrannus, Borealopelta, Caihong

With very few exceptions, most 'modern' animals are the holdovers from richer faunal assemblages. The only notable exception could be polar bears that appears in the last few hundred thousand years...

So if the geography matches it should all be good!

Adding to what everyone else has said, many modern animals had larger or smaller ranges during prehistoric times (since you brought them up, musk oxen are a fairly notable example of the former).

would figures of the modern wolf (Canis lupus) be acceptable stand ins for the dire wolf? im sure there would hardly be any morphological difference between the two species.

There are some differences in the skulls, the dire wolf skull looks a little shorter and deeper--and the dire wolf was a little taller and stockier.

It probably wouldn't be obvious unless the two were next to each other though.

Most model figures exaggerate features to make them distinguishable from related other taxa where in real there would probably no other difference than in coloration of fur, scales or feathers.

So I agree, you could almost any figure of an extant animal use as a stand in for an extinct species without any customization.
