MPC The Prehistoric World 10- Million B.C. dinosaur playset?  Anybody know anything about this? I have searched the WWW and cannot find a picture of the package. It is not one million b.c. it says 10 Million B.C. I have a box and several pieces  that go to it.. I might have all of them, but I need to see a pic to know what exactly goes with this set. I am excited about it, and think it is rather rare.. can anybody give me more info please?

I can't think of a MPC set with that name.  Can you give us a picture of the box and or does it have a set number on it?

Hi! Yes, this set does indeed exist. I have one in my personal collection in fact. It is called  10 Million B.C.  The prehistoric world (#1217).  It is from the early 60s and is one of the rarest of the MPC playsets . It came with 3 mountain pieces (the large "mountain peak" and 2 of the curved "mountain ranges"), 3 yellow cavemen, and 16 dinosaurs (Tyrannosaurus, Brontosaurus, Kronosaurus, Trachodon, Wooly Mammoth, Macrauchenia, Parasaurolophus, Megatherium, Glyptodont, Dire Wolf, Ceratogaulus, Struthiomimus, Plateosaurus, Dimetrodon, Cynognathus, and Pteranodon. 2 palm trees were also included. As was common in the early MPC sets,  The animals and trees were attached to the backing board with those little flaps that came up with holes in them, and were each animal went there was a little blurb giving the animals name, size, and a little bit of info about it.
This is an extremely rare playset, in fact the only other one I have ever seen is the one I currently have.   I have not had it long, in fact I did not have it when the latest addition of my book came out ("Dinosaur Playsets".....cheap plug I know! Haha), so it was not included, but I do plan to include it in the next edition (whenever that may be! LOL).
Unfortunately I am out of town right now and can't post a pic of the set but I hope this description helps!

Is your Dinosaur Playsets book available anywhere? I'd be very interested in a copy.

Yes absolutely, I'm sorry I guess I should have mentioned!
The book is called "Dinosaur Playsets: An Illustrated Guide to the Prehistoric Playsets of Marx and MPC". The book is fully illustrated with full color photos of every dino set by Marx and MPC (boxed, carded, & bagged) known to me (except a few that I acquired after the book went to press, such as the aforementioned "10 Million B.C." set by MPC, which I just fairly recently located), plus chapters on reissue sets by such companies as Superior, SDC, Toy Street, Marx of Miami, etc., and also sets from other companies who put out dinos similar to Marx and /or MPC and often cause confusion (Ajax, Nabisco, TimMee, Topps, etc.), PLUS a handy side-by-side comparison chapter of each Marx dino vs. it's corresponding MPC "sister" for those newer collectors who always get them confused! There are also other dino-items made by each company, such as the miniature sets (Flintstones, etc.), Tinykins, the Marx "pinball" game....and other items that USED Marx and/or MPC dinos, such as checkers games, science sets, etc. There is also a handy series of appendices at the back listing each set mentioned in the book and it's complete parts lists to help folks complete their playsets that may be missing pieces!!! And lots more! Over 250 pictures and 185 pages!

(Sorry if that sounded like an ad speech..that was the ad copy for the book that came out of one of the genre mags it's advertised in!)

Anyway, the easiest & fastest way is to just send a PayPal payment directly to me in the amount of $44.99 + $3 shipping.
You can send to japfeif @aol.com

**BE SURE to include your name & shipping address in the notes!!!!!

that's also my email address (obviously) so if you don't have PayPal or prefer another method let me know!
Thanks for the interest!
Jeff

Here is the "Prehistoric World 10 Million B.C" playset by MPC. I was mistaken in my earlier post, there are not any palm trees (it had been awhile since I'd seen the set, as I do not keep my collection at my house!)

:)  Hey Jeff, what is in the expanded edition of your Dinosaur Playset book that is not in the original book?

Hey I am so sorry....I totally forgot about this thread and JUST saw this post and your question!!!!

I imagine this is completely out of date now but anyway, there are more pictures of more playsets that were not included in the first edition,  so correction of info, a chapter on lookalike figures from TimMee, Ajax, Nabisco, Hong Kong knockoffs, etc. and unlike the previous edition, this one is on GLOSSY paper rather than the flat matte of the previous editions. So the many color photos are MUCH clearer and sharper. Also, all pics have been digitally enhanced to further make them pop! It's a serious improvement over the first edition (and even a nice upgrade from the second edition), with now over 240 full color photos of every (or almost every) dinosaur playset from both Marx and MPC!

The new 2020 THIRD edition is finally available and is up on eBay now (and soon will be listed on Amazon).
Again, I am SO sorry it took 2 & a half years to reply to this post!!!!!
