Theropods speed

A two meter tall animal would naturally have been quite fast. It's just that we normally only hear about speed estimates when it pertains to Tyrannosaurus.

QuoteEither way, Navarro-Lorbés said it's likely that this speed represented short bursts, partly because "fast tracks around the world are very scarce." Since these tracks were made in relatively deep mud, it's also possible that these theropods might have been even faster on terrain that offered less resistance, he said.
And they could have been faster! Wow ...  :o

I don't find those speed estimates to be anything surprising.  A large animal today that can only go 27mph would not be considered fast at all.   Even Hippos can go 27mph and they are not built for speed.  Cattle can easily match those speeds as well.

To state an animal is faster than a human is not saying much.  Most animals are faster than humans and can maintain their speeds for much longer.  For our size, we're really not very fast at all.

I would bet that medium sized theropods could go much faster than 27 mph.  But it would happen only occasionally so that chances of it being preserved would be small...plus the types of surfaces that preserve footprints are not conducive to high speed travel.  I really can't imagine the dinosaur's world was full of plodding animals that could only run a bit faster than the fastest humans...
