WickedWargames

Hey everyone, Arthur from Wicked Wargames here. We're a small and new company working to release tabletop games into the internet sphere and have found this forum to be of endless helpfulness to our cause, so thank you so much for existing!

In 2016 I released on Kickstarter a game called "Cretacea: The Game of Gargantuan Survival", inspired by dinosaur cinema and tv. It allowed players to use a rule set with stats and such to field dinosaurs on the table, but the game was riddled with errors, issues, and all sorts of grammar mistakes. Nevertheless, the game did quite well, and recently I took on a new partner (my friend Charles) to work on a re-draft: the 2nd edition.

As we close in on its completion, we want to have a place where we can field ideas, thoughts, and questions, and get clarifications on scales, sizes and dinosaur toys from a group of professionals. That's where you lot come in. We really respect the discussions and supportive nature of this forum and have been biding our time for when we're ready to start with our updates on the game.

From some of our research, we've found that scale of... both dinosaur toys/models or actual dinosaurs is a tad confusing, and we want to be accurate within the theorised current thinking without excluding people who have a mix of dinosaur scales to hand.

Within the game, we want to encourage wargamers to veer from the expensive and sometimes overpriced wargames industry and instead use toy dinosaurs from popular manufacturers as their in-game models. Due to being recent start-up and working on a budget, at the moment we have a mix of cheaper dinosaurs and an eye to upgrade to better ones in the future.

We aim to determine what models we have in our collection (for referencing) and share our work as we go. Pictured here are the Tamiya "Jurassic Park" velociraptors and a mix of brachiosaurus we are using to represent a "family" in the rule book.

Some of our models weren't that cheap but a lot of them were, so our only request going in is "be nice please", because we're doing our best and we know that most of our models don't scale correctly and that a lot of the sculpts are cheap or "chinasaurs" (a saying we picked up reading on here).

An example of a question we have is who the hell is this guy? We've done hours of research to specifically find out who the "outward spikey, flat back" armoured dinosaur is, and went down the

rabbit hole of dinosaur research. Granted, I think it says "Edmontonia" on its tummy, it doesn't look like one to us, but we could be wrong. We know you lot will know the answer and trust your wisdom!

What do you think is the best place to post blog updates for this process. We'd love to be able to share the project with other dinosaur toy enthusiasts, ask questions about models, scales, and other things in the same place if possible. We will, and we aim to provide something that you can all use with your own collections. All you'll need is a tape measure and a die. To clarify, we're not here to sell, so please don't banish us to the wastes! We're here for help, and we genuinely think you lot can help us best.

Kind Regards

Arthur

Basically, you don't need to worry much about accuracy unless you really want to. You're not an educational company selling toys to children, so you can really do whatever you want or take a bit of license with scaling.

As for that Ankylosaur, it's likely based on very old depictions of Edmontonia or Ankylosaurus. It's not a perfect match but you could use it as Hylaeosaurus, if you wanted something that fits better.

W @WickedWargames Welcome to the DTF! I am glad that another new company like yours arises and educational, that strategy is very good to create dinosaurs for the game as the role-playing games of figures such as those based on the Lord of the Rings for example. I hope that your idea and your company will prosper and that you will have many clients. My best wishes.

People like you are needed in the dinosaur market on the other hand as my fellow forum member says don't worry too much about scales. I believe that it is almost impossible to make dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals to scale reliably.

Welcome to the forum! I don't think there's really an established sub-forum that suits your purpose, so I think if you wanted to update people here, the "General" section would be your best bet. You might find the identification thread to be useful for your endeavor.

As for your ankylosaur, if you want to use it as Edmontonia or Hylaeosaurus, cut off the tail club--nodosaurids didn't have one! It works as kind of a retro Ankylosaurus, though.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.
