Giant squid vs Megalodon

Not a new sci fi movie, but serious speculation.  Great White sharks, the usual analogue for Megalodon, have been found to make squid an important part of their diet, can dive to depths of about 1000 meters and some have been found with suction cup scars on them, similar to those seen on Sperm whales.  There is also data from trackers showing GW sharks at great depths in regions of the ocean where there is little other food around, suggesting they were going after deep sea squid.

It's believed that Giant Squid (and Colossal Squid) have been around for millions, if not tens of millions of years.

So while highly speculative and most likely impossible to ever prove, I think it's plausible that there was a time when Megalodon, on occasion would dive deep and feast on Giant Squid, just as Sperm whales probably do today.

Thoughts?

Probably every once in awhile because shark are opportunistic predators. Good thing to think about though.

White sharks are not a good ecological analogue for megalodon. It was closer related to other salmon sharks like makos and porbeagles.

Chance encounters probably happened, but white sharks are a lot more generalist than people often consider (or some populations are rather), so actively hunting squids of any size to the degree some white sharks do is probably unlikely.
