Am I correct in assuming the Tamba sauropod has not been properly named or described yet?

You are!

Shapeways 1:20 Amargasaurus by Andrew Sides

Something tells me that the pieces might fit better after some sanding :)

Unfortunately no.
They'll have to be cut off.
Andrew should definitely shorten the side length of the quadratic connecting piece.

That's a shame :( It must be frustrating indeed. But I'm sure Martin Garratt can fix it for you.

I am a little relieved that I haven't dished out the two hundred euros plus for the frosted detail yet. Something tells me that with the cost involved, and the unreliability of Shapeways' printing, there could be quite a lot of problems with this printing.

It's disappointing because the sculpt is so beautiful.

Some new goodies--I already had the centipede, but I added the black widow, grasshopper, leaf insect, and luna moth from the Smithsonian line to my collection :)

Very cool :)

UK

Great items all.

Added another kaiyodo special to my bag. Really glorious piece.

Well, it appears yet another company is ripping off Safari's models.

UK, that is an amazing trilobite model, do you know where I could find it?

The back of that box is just the worst. Best gift for the children? lol.

Paleogene Pals

Is it just me or does that 'Rapator' have a dilophosaur head?

I guess "raptor" could be called a generic term referring to Oviraptor...which was crested ....flimsy and thin, but works sorta.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

Gwangi

It is actually a Dilophosaurus, a knock off of the Safari version. The Deltadromeus agilis is a Safari Velociraptor knock off. What would compel them to mislabel it with such an obscure name? I like how they gave the full scientific name too.

Most likely copyright evasion.

CityRaptor

How would that work? Can't copyright the name of an actual Dinosaur.
Those are probably also not child-safe...
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Yeah, obviously. But the toys themselves are copyrighted. My theory is this: when the rightful copyright holders (Safari in this case) goes searching for bootleg products, naming it something else may throw them off the trail. You see this a lot with Chinese copies. They avoid using the brand name and give it something very similar sounding. See here with this example:

Also, speaking of Batman bootlegs, check this one out:

I got a laugh out that one >:D

Or maybe the bootleggers were just lazy and couldn't be bothered to research the real animals' names.

Roselaar

Oh my, the story on that Batman bootleg makes absolutely no sense! :)

SpittersForEver

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'd go with they are just being lazy. ;)
