My Bullyland minis I got from Libra...thanks again!

Now here is something I know at least Marc (Horridus) can appreciate. I went into a local antique shop, just to browse. I half way hoped I would find an Invicta or Battat or some kind of dinosaur tucked away somewhere and I guess I did.

About the last thing I expected to find. This thing is in rough shape and is surely older than I am. It must be an antique but I must admit that I'm a bit hesitant about it. I know killing raptors is illegal since about the 1970's but this thing is obviously very old. I thought it would fall apart simply by touching it. I kept the receipt for it anyway just in case.

Killing perhaps, but often carcasses are turned over to taxidermy specilists, that were natural die offs, or accidentals. There is a guy in my area for instance that mounts owls, and obtains many through people who find them dead and have him come remove it.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

EDIT: I don't know why I have to use a scroll bar to view the right side of these pics. If any of you know anything about this, please let me know.

Using control -  and control + will make the entire page smaller or larger, including the pictures. So just Ctrl - until the scroll bar goes away.

well mybe its a diffrent law in my state, but me and my dad had found a dead owl on the road in good display condition. However, when he called the local Taxidermist, he was told that having one in possesion dead or alive was illegal, and that the only way to have it stuffed, was to donate it to a museum afterwards.

we then got rid of the owl by taking it out to the local wilderness. Thankfully we weren't in trouble with the cops at all.

Must be some arcane state law, sounds like. Too many grey areas to actually enforce. What defines a museum for instance?
Here at least, as long as there is no evidence of killing you can have a dead animal mounted. For that matter, you can keep some species alive, as long as you are not endangering or killing them.

well the larger museums(Like the London natural history museum) would have a bunch of stuffed wildlife for display.

As much looking as I've done for NY state I cannot seem to find anything specific regarding the acquisition of antique taxidermy. You would think if they wanted people to follow laws they would make them easier to locate. All well, I have it now and I have the receipt too. I'm not very concerned, the mount shows its age. Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm growing quite attached to it, as creepy as it is.

Just got the whole whack of 2012 CollectA dinos at the T.rex Centre (minus the T.rex with prey--they didn't come in). So of course that means I now have at least one of each.  Plus one of all of the antelopes, the red panda, two striped hyenas (best hyena ever so far), the trees, the red hog...

I consider this all to be a late birthday present to me!

Also, just won a few Predators figures on ebay--Cave bear, Therizinosaurus and Deinotherium.  Now i just need the Hyaenodon and Chalicotherium (I could have had that latter, but I didn't want to spend as much).

I think you are fine with it. Honestly if anyone were in trouble I would think it would be whomever sold it to you, as opposed to you buying it innocently as it were. What would be gained from your prosecution? I would not lose any sleep for it, be glad for the purchase and sleep well.

Paleona

This probably isn't something most of you would be interested in, but...

My husband is currently deployed, so receiving this giant rex (he's about 2.5 feet tall) in the mail from him really made my week.  :))  The colors are much prettier in real life.

Thanks!  He likes to stand next to the couch and watch movies with me, hehe.  ;D
I've also got a very large stuffed German Shepherd that people always think is real, haha.  Though, I'm pretty sure with his vibrant color scheme, no one will be mistaking this dude for a living rex.

These have been for sale on eBay for quite some time. I call them Koreasaurs (since the seller is Korean and no other information is available about them)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Medium-Size-Dinosaur-Hydrotherosaurus-/320835853865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab34e9e29

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BIG-size-dinosaur-Ceratosaurus-/320898326771?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab707e0f3

That seller also has many Famemaster puzzlesaurs for sale, many of which are hard to get ahold of elsewhere.
