@Blade: If you make another pterosaur.... ;)
@Jetoar: Thank you! My professor thinks that the current curriculum lacks information of color theory so... they made us learn it. I have to admit that it is incredibly helpful.

lol don't tempt me ! ;D I already have a desire to another..maybe a perched Quetzalcoatlus.. ;)

DO IT

Eventually ! I've seen too much cool artwork of them not too..I plan to Shane's 1/15  Quetz model..that should help spur me on.. ;D

Hey folks! Okay, I want to submit to that All Yesterdays contest on Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs and I want some advice: Do I work on a finished up piece of the shaking skin-flap Amargasaurus I drew a while ago or, I have a terrible idea about 'fat-necked' Elasmosauridae... because I had the weirdest conversation with a teacher about speculative illustration in paleontology and they kinda wanted to see if my little example could be pulled off. >.<

Blade-of-the-Moon

I do have to say I like the Amargasaurus idea quite a bit.   The Elasmosaur idea sounds more odd and weird though..so I guess depending on what your going for ?

Weaver

Aaah, that's what I thought too. I think I'll do both/preliminary sketches for both and then decide on which to finish.

Weaver

Alright, after doing a little doodling I kinda like the way the fat-neck/weedy pleisiosaur is going. What do you all think eh?

I'll work on sketches for the Amarga's tomorrow if I have time but I kinda like my weedy guy here now. XD

I admit it is pretty intriguing...and I like what you have there so far.  It might be tougher to decide than I had thought.

Just a thought..is the contest dinosaur only or any prehistoric animal ?

Dangit, I didn't even aska about that. >.> I'm going to ask them about that right now. And if it is open to any prehistoric reptile, yay! If not, that's okay!

[Edit: David confirmed that yes, it is a general paleontology contest, so it isn't limited to just dinosaurs.]

Cool, glad it worked out that way.  The idea of a plesiosaur combined with a weedy sea dragon is growing on me...I have a love for dragons and sea monsters and this one plays to it.. ;)

Weaver

Eee! I'm glad you like it so far Blade. Maybe I'll try a different angle for this and different poses too. Now, looking up the weedy beasts... I found the Tasseled Wobbegong. Oh no, I think I like this idea of leafy/weedy frondage on these guys. I'm kind of stuck on which elasmosauridae-genus this could be. Either Albertonectes, Styxosaurus, Thalassomedon (which would be neat because it's a local find), or I could stick with Elasmosaurus. :/

I'll add up a bunch of sketches for this tonight.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Cool. Can't wait to see them.   Wobbegongs are pretty neat..I had almost considered having a small species as a pet. lol  I'd go with Thalassomedon , it's close enough to Elasmo to have a similar form and sounds different enough to be memorable. ;)

I let myself into the pleisiosaur sandbox and this happened. So, this is just a little study I felt that needed to be done before working on the values for the real painting for my contest entry. It will not be the same style as this though. It's mostly so that I can see the details on the head with will sadly be too small in the final painting.

@Blade: Thank you for helping me decide on a species and for the support of this little idea. Yep, it's a weedy/leafy Thalassomedon.

[Edit: Dangit, I think I need to change the teeth on this. >.< Looking at the pics on Oceans of Kansas I've gone and screwed up the teeth.]

Blade-of-the-Moon

Your very welcome...and it  looks really cool.   Kinda reminds me a little of the mutant Cryptocleidus from the Godzilla tv series in the face..always liked those guys.

EmperorDinobot

Yeah! who is to say their integumentary organs weren't all interesting and such?

very cool draw of weedy/leafy Thalassomedon. I like it  ^-^.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

Hey folks! I live, therefore I shall art.

Sadly, I kept trying to incorporate dinosaurs into my printmaking class but nothing worked out. Next semester I'll try doing dino-things.I'm currently working on a collaboration with a friend on a pseudo-evolution of a strange little critter and it's fun. Oh! In Printmaking, we had a fun project that soon, I shall be able to show the final results of it to you all. Design a critter based on living animals and aah, I had fun with it. I think I'll post this on the animal forum as well. Anyway, here was the finalized design (minus background) of the critter:

You can find out more on what animal parts are in it here: http://illustratedweaver.tumblr.com/post/47165246839

Also! Back in the game now and I've got a pad of brown paper that I'm tempted to try things on. If you have any suggestions for tiny things to doodle (little dinos and other critters) I'd appreciate it.

ZoPteryx

Awesome work Weaver, those are some mean hog-critters! :o  If you're taking suggestions, how about a Buitreraptor? ^-^

Weaver

Here it is! The final print of the beastie-above. Man, I love the process but keeping track of how I registered each color on top of each other is evil. That's something I shall have to get better at.

@Zopteryx: Of course! Buiteraptors will be coming tomorrow!

Weaver

All of my finals are done! I'm just waiting on grades now. So, it is time to celebrate by finally scanning this in. I'm not sorry for the gular fold. It makes sense to me with the elongnated heads of those in the sub-family of Unenlagiinae.

I wanted to see how my lovely new Bogus Recycled Rough Sketch Paper from Bee Paper would hold up to ink and wet media. I have learned two things:

-Markers and brushes w/gouche or ink = good
-Don't use your nice dip-pen nibs on this.

It feels smooth but it does have 'tooth'. Either way, time to go buy a bunch of markers and Sharpies. Also, thank you Zopteryx for great request! I love this paper and I want to do more now. Any other suggestions/requests?
