Hello all,
I wanted to share a Compsognathus that I have uploaded to shapeways.  I printed it in white Strong and Flexible.  It stands atop lcd/plasma displays.  Please let me know what you all think.  The model can be found here http://shpws.me/pmB4 . Thanks.

I came across that last week, very tempting ! Could also look good on some kind of vertical base, atop a tree trunk.

vfxguy

Thanks for the kind words.

Nebuloid, here is a picture of it on my arm. Close enough to a tree trunk  ;)

That Compy is just awesome.  Can't wait for Martin to paint one and mount it.  How did the teeth come out with such great detail!!??  WOW.   :o :o :o

Blade-of-the-Moon

My only nit pick is it is unfrathered and has pronated hands. However, I'll just leave that be because that is an absolute incredible piece!

That's because it's the Jurassic Park Compsognathus

I know, but I like to point out inaccuracies, and then ignore them for the pieces beauty. ;)

You're not the only one who noticed the errors, I'm sure everyone else who posted so far has. But that's sort of missing the point, it's not supposed to be accurate. It's for the JP fans ;)

Wow. Thanks for all the replies.  Indeed, as tyrantqueen pointed out, this piece was inspired by the JP compy. I'm a very big fan of the movies. JP1 might be one of the biggest reasons that got me working in VFX. Glad you guys like the model. I've been looking at other threads and learning a lot about dinosaur anatomy. So much good work in the forum and so many knowledgeable people here.

If anybody is interested, the piece can be found here in the shapeways store http://shpws.me/pmB4

References suggest the few specimens found were recovered with either skin or scale impressions rather than feathers. This despite the fact they were found in the same sediments which preserved the archeopteryx specimens and their feathers so well. For now what we have suggests this was not a feathered animal.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

Oh, that's very interesting indeed. I would have expected a dinosaur of this size and lineage to be feathered or fuzzy.

amargasaurus cazaui

Anything is possible...perhaps the areas that preserved were not the feathered portions for instance. There are dozens of possiblities , but the known integuments for the animal so far are skin impressions and what were suggested as scales.Given the animals closest relatives that were feathered, most people feel the dinosaur would have been as well...but the actual evidence so far at least does not support the theory. Perhaps in time a feathered set of remains will be found and it is entirely possible.
