Yes, much better. It looks like a lion stalking its prey. That'll look really cool covered with the down feathers ;D!

Having grown up with the 'classical', scaly look of theropods, this actually kind of hurts my nostalgic side, haha. I should better get used to this quickly. :)
I think that looks cooler than scaly theropods ;D.

Well, it definitely has something pleasing, I agree with that. With animals like Nanuqsaurus it absolutely makes sense as an insulating coat. What really bothers me, though, are depictions of thickly covered, large theropods from warmer climate zones and big dromaeosaurids or oviraptorids having feathers on their arms that look more suited for flight than anything else (which doesn't make much sense in my opinion, why would an animal that has barely anything to do with flying or gliding have aerodynamically built plumage?).

I will, however, definitely play some more with the more fur-like appearance of proto-feathers. I love big birds like emus and ostriches and I think they are a great reference for theropod movement.

He looks a bit like he's got chicken legs. :D But I like it so far. Some more work on him in between (geez, I've been quicker with lineart before...), I really am enjoying this.

Thanks for the interest! I'll be mainly focusing on paleontological reconstructions and creature design in the near future (once I have the big commission I'm working on finished), so once I have a bit of experience in the field, we can surely arrange something. ;)

I just got back to working on this fellow (after trying to work with zbrush drove me nuts). Some more work on the head (New markings, more scales, different eye color and some backlight):

Slowly, but steadily Nanuq is turning into my best paleo-illustration so far. I really enjoy working on this piece and have already thought of a title: "The king in the north." :D I thought this fitted perfectly, two of my most favorite things combined.

fabricious

Tried a concept for the background, let's see where this will take me...

I will add a lot more trees as well as branches, broken twigs on the floor and ferns.

fabricious

I need opinions, please. Chicks or no chicks? ;)

Also, what kind of other animals/plants should I add in the background? Suggestions?

Yutyrannus

Definitely chicks, make sure they look like little fuzzballs :)).

I agree !

fabricious

To distract myself from studying (geez, biology...) I worked some more on this fellow. The chicks will be added, don't you worry. I just removed the sketch layer for this screenshot.

I have a bit of a problem with the moss on the left. Might remove or change that.

Yutyrannus

Awesome! Also, what do you plan on doing next?

Thanks!
Do you mean in this picture or as a new illustration?
