Awesome ! Love using wire ! Will be adding some to our 1:1 Archeopteryx  soon . :)

Way to go! Sounds like a nice project as well! :D

Alright... really can't keep my hands off it. Why do I have to get on a roll when I need to get up early the next morning? Every time, haha.

Thanks! I am slowly making progress, as the upper jaw is somewhat finished (currently cooling down in the oven) and I worked some more on the right leg.

I sure do hope that everything will work out properly. So far, I am not quite sure how I'm supposed to work on the connecting joints of the different parts. Any advice would be great!

Greetings,
Fabrizio

PS.: I just realized that this sculpture would go nicely with Lu Feng Shan's Styracosaurus, haha. Maybe I'll try to get my hands on one of them once I have some money to spare.

Aaand here is the cranium. Turned out pretty symmetrical, I'd say!

He might have a bit of a big nose, though. Hm.

I also worked some more on the body itself. Piece by piece it's coming along~

Fabrizio

He, he my Lu Feng Shan Styraco needs a new "friend" to "play" with.  >:D

I like how you did the teeth. I'm making a few modifications to my 1/20 Kaiyodo Dinoland T-rex, including replacing the "wall of teeth" with more realistic ones. I'd appreciate any advice you have for me.

Are you referring to the fact that it looks like it has a wall of baleen for its teeth? Hahah, I thought that was weird too. They did change the teeth on the newer release but they still don't look all that great in my opinion.

To be honest, I just made slightly bent cones in various sizes, not comparing them to one another and pre-baked them, so I could chose from an array of teeth. Might be the way to go for your project as well! :) I am no big fan of those 'walls of teeth' myself either, haha.

Yup, I never liked those 'baleen teeth' as TQ put it. Another thing I don't like is the leg posture. Unrealistic and boring in my opinion  :P, but I don't if I will modify them much. Thanks for your input!

When it's raining outside, do some crafting. I am definitely no Foulkes or Krentz, but I am satisfied so far.

And off to the oven...

Blade-of-the-Moon

I love the pose so far..pretty cool. It really does feel a bit like the older Kaiyodo vinyls..the texture, the wrinkles..just awesome bud !

fabricious

I'm glad you like it so far! I am currently eagerly waiting for the leg to cool down properly, so I can have a look at the seams. Adding the second leg (and then: the neck and lower jaw) will be a really difficult thing to do, I guess. Good thing that there's no deadline!

Blade-of-the-Moon

It's always one thing to make the first piece, but then you have to make another that matches it..lol I know exactly how that goes.

I'm planting banana trees now and building rocks..gotta have a good looking environment right ? wish I could just work on the dinos already ! lol

Have fun !

I think this thing is coming together beautifully. And Blade is right, this does remind of an old-school Kaiyodo vinyl dino. Some folks try to replicate the Prehistoric Scenes look; it would be nice to have somebody try to go with the old Kaiyodo look. Not exactly replicate, just be inspired by.

And, I forgot to mention...I like how the feet are turning out.

Exactly, just the " vibe " is great ! lol :)

Thanks guys! I took a quick look at some of the models (the chasmosaurus is especially beautiful), if you have one or two links to models that are from said older series, please show them to me! I am completely new to the realm of amazing sculptures, really, and still need to get a good look at what's out there. :)

Check out this older thread here : http://dinotoyforum.proboards.com/thread/3249  lots of pics of Kaiyodo vinyls.

You mentioned above how you thought the nose might be a bit big ?

Looking at skull pics Sarcophagus is more robust looking in the skull :

Also a more recent fleshed out reconstruction : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/Albertosaurus.jpg

I'd say your pretty darn close...maybe go a just a little bit skinnier in the front if it's worth the trouble to you ?
