I think we are fortunate to have an artist like Dan on the forum and that he can answer questions about the figures and perhaps explain his ideas and concepts for us while listening to our feedback and constructive criticism. I just hope we do not offend him or run him off with some of the ruder comments and things being said like massive failures. I just think there are more polite and positive ways to offer thoughts and ideas and I hope we can perhaps work towards that a bit.
Dan is a solid guy and I appreciate his being here. He was most helpful to me at least in signing a figure for my collection and his posts and comments in Facebook are always so thoughtful and well considered.

I agree, that was pretty harsh.

OMGSH can I get him to sign them? OMGOMG OMG!!!

I would love to see Dan LoRusso sign my first Battat, my Amargasaurus! It would make me melt!

Simon

Dan's been around the block a few times.  I wouldn't think that he'd overreact over something posted on an anonymous site.

*Chuckle* well this Battat news is like a hand-grenade rolled into an already over-crowded party!  (forgive the metaphor but I just watched "Appleseed Alpha - 2014" by Shirow Masumune - its gotta be one of the best full-feature Anime sci fi flicks I've ever seen). The animation is so good that at times you think you're watching a live action flick.

Anyhow, I'm intrigued by Dan's new work on this line and am looking forward to examining a few of the new pieces at Target.

Heck, if they're cheap enough I just might  .....  ah .... no

brontodocus

Wow, so (all of?) the old Battat figures will come back with a new paint job? :o Instead of crying over what I paid for my Battats (well, it could have been worse) I'm rather tempted to get me a complete set of the new releases, too. So far I like all the new ones and can't wait to add those to my collection. ^-^

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a T-rex by Krentz? My friends all have Sideshow, I must make amends.

Yeah, agreed.  Yutyrannus, please bear this in mind, I'm sure you'd be upset if someone responded that way to your work. C:-) We are all entitled to our opinions and can get caught up in the heat of the moment, but we should try to be sensitive to others when we communicate our own feelings. Thanks for understanding!

I suppose that was a bit harsh the way I said it, but both are highly inaccurate and I just don't have any patience for that sort of thing anymore :-\.

*Chuckle* well this Battat news is like a hand-grenade rolled into an already over-crowded party!

700 topic views and five pages of comments in the space of, what, 12 hours.

I'm glad to hear Dan('s Dinosaurs) is looking into stocking them, otherwise these figures might end up going up in value even more than the originals!

Many of us Europeans (and other non-North Americans) missed out on Battats the first time around and we don't want to miss the boat again! I only own one of the originals - the Ouranosaurus, which I aquired recently. I'd never even heard of Battat until I started up the Dinotoyblog. That sounds impossible, I know, but information (and a variety of dinosaur figures) was harder to come by in the pre-internet era!

Hehe, fair enough, I suppose we have different perspectives on what it means to be "highly inaccurate". These figures 'aint no chinasaurs, that's for sure!

DinoLord

The therizinosaur was $8; I assume the rest of the line is similarly priced.

EmperorDinobot

$8 is not so bad!

Wow I really REALLY can't wait to have these in my hands. I'mma try to check other Targets today if I can. It's kind of my "Break Day", but what better than to spend break lookin' for new dino toys?

Then again...I have nowhere to put them... Anyone want some Schleich dinos? lol.

Chad

This is great news and I can't wait to get my hands on them, particularly the therizinosaur! I've skimmed this thread and might have missed a few things so...a few questions.

Are these going to be available online eventually?
Has the entire species list been released?
Are they all going to be in 40 scale?
Are the re-releases going to be identical to the old ones? The same molds?

Can't believe I'll have gastonia figures to choose from. When it rains it pours. And now I'll have a third gigantoraptor figure. I still think the Kaiyodo expo giganto is the gold standard, but this Battat one is interesting and I will definitely get it. So, first Tedco, now Battat. If we can only get Starlux to re-release their cephalaspis and trilobite and I'll be set! A good day to be a dinosaur nerd.

I will not make promises for Dan about things, but my own experience was that when I asked for him to sign a figure for me, we discussed the necessity of providing adequate funds to return the dinosaur back to me within the box, so he would not be out any shipping costs, which is of course only fair. I sent him my extra Edmontia, and he bad it back to me within a few days at the most. He has a clean signature and took care to sign my figure without smearing it. I was happy with it. If you wish to examine it for yourself, I do have a thread for autographed figures, featuring models signed by Forest Rogers, Doug Watson, Mike Everhart, Dan of course, and even by our own Dr admin himself. Quite a unique collection that I have grown I feel. Dan was quite polite about signing the figure and I appreciate it from him.

I do hope future theropods in this line start to look a bit more accurate - the original Battat line was famous for being very up-to-date, yet much of what can be seen so far in this line misses the mark. The Gigantoraptor's wings are no good and the therizinosaur is totally bald.
Aesthetically, the Dacentrus looks excellent, but maybe someone who knows more can verify the correct shape of the hands? They look like they might be off, which would be a shame.
So far, I really like the looks of the Pachyrhinosaurus (correct number of manual claws, and a great pose!) and the Gastonia. Checking my local Target stores tomorrow!

The new sculpts LOOK like they belong with the old Battat line, which to me seems to be a good thing.  If they are going to re-issue the entire old line (confirmation anyone?) it would make sense to make new figures similar in style.  With Dan LoRusso as the sculptor, that is assured.
Battat was always a "niche" line of figures, probably THE most distinct looking series with its own style.
Continuing that "look" seems to be to be the best way to get back in the game - you don't want your dinosaurs to look like everyone elses ...

Making the new models match the original line in terms of style and technique is definitely a good idea! I'm just hoping we don't end up with, say, a Deinonychus figure that I'll have to pass up because it's missing the wing feathers that should cover its hands. Such a thing would be a distressing missed opportunity.
That said, I've always wanted a Battat Triceratops  :) Even if it's not at all up-to-date, it's really cool. Maybe I need a separate display shelf for outdated figures...

Also added to the first post for the sake of completion.  :)

Great news and price!!!

Now,  to find a way to obtain them.
Keep The Magic Alive and Kicking! :-)

By the way, if anybody manage to get a few extras of these, count me in as interested in buying, asap. As I live in Brazil, don't think I'll be seeing them personally in any store.  :(

This is exciting news, congratulations Dan on your deals with Battat & Target. I hope your medical issues are behind you and wish you success in this. The only down side is being a completist in my collecting I will have less money in my pocket since I will have to get your latest releases hopefully at our local Target. I made the mistake of not getting all of the original series when they were still in production and paid high premiums on eBay to complete the set. I did get the Triceratops at a great price directly from you. Good luck and its good to see you back in the game.

Possibly the most colorful ankylosaur ever.
I may not like feathered dinosaurs and stumpy legged Spinosaurs, but I will keep those opinions to myself, I will not start a debate over it, I promise. 😇

Okay, Yutyrannus "massive failures" "highly inaccurate" in what way? Back up your statements please and I will be more than happy to explain my reasoning behind the sculpts.
