I believe the new issue, number 100, is out now. Happy Anniversary Prehistoric Times!

http://www.prehistorictimes.com/

CityRaptor

Number 100 has been out for a while. Got mine like 3 months ago.

Anyways, Happy Anniversary!

( Given that 100 is my only issue so far, is it normal that like 50% of that magazine is advertising ? )
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Cover A looks awesome, a Deinosuchus aka Phobosuchus attacking a Young T-Rex :)
Which is this picture:

Always loved this art, since it looks more like a photograph 8)

Blade-of-the-Moon

I have the " Airbender " piece by Fabio Pastori on my cover..pretty sweet too ! ;D

I've been a subscriber since issue #13 .. I love PT it's really the best Dino-mag out there ..the owners really do love Dinosaurs..they aren't trying to make a buck.

Cityraptor, magazines like PT have to have ads..it's how they survive in this day and time. Unless they want to charge a 100.00 per subscription. A quality magazine just takes a LOT to produce. I've been with this one since it it was a small ,black and white , newsletter kind of thing.  So to some it up what ads are in PT are needed...and they are all Dino/ prehistoric related in some way so it's cool and a good way to find out about new products.  A lot of our first images come from this source. ;)

DinoToyForum

Isn't it the only dino-mag out there?  :-\

Tylosaurus

Well to be honest there are lots more Adam :)

You might want to take a look here my friend :)

CityRaptor

I think he meant still published magazines...I think I have the Starlog one and the German Version of the National Geographic about Bizarre Dinosaurs ( sadly they went for a non-dinosaur Cover )
Well, there is one in Germany, but it is aimed at Children...there is also "Fossilien", but that is mainly about Fossils.

I was not complaining about ads. Sorry if it sounded like that.  I know that a lot magazines actually need them. I was just a bit surprised about the large amount of ads.  It is a bit like looking through a toy catalogue full of awesome Dinosaur Toys! Whenever I look into that part of the magazine, I have this urge to buy the stuff advertised there. Still does not work for mammals, however. ^-^

Yeah there were a LOT of Dino-related mags out there..but over time they have decreased quite a bit.  PT is the only one I know of still in publication...there maybe some foreign ones out there still..but I can't point toward any. :/

Sorry if  I sounded defensive..I guess I am a bit. A lot of magazines I've subscribed to have came and went..especially with a lot of things going digital..Mike has managed to hold on so far though.  If you haven't subscribed I heartily encourage you to do so...and of course buying from all those lovely advertisers assures that will continue to do pay Mike for the space and help keep the mag going. :)

Anyone received issue #101 yet?  I heard they've shipped but I haven't gotten it yet. I've ordered and received back issues since then though. Weird.

I've had mine for about a week--in Canada! It may depend on the type of mailing service you chose (international doesn't get a choice, but US does).

Its the best dino magazine out there! ;D I'm so glad its still in production, I have been subscribing for a while now, and its worth it.
So, when will we see a good article about our beloved DTF? Or perhaps the diorama contest? That would be cool, yes? ;)

Mike accepts any article submissions..someone should write one up..maybe interview our beloved Admin ? ;D

Thagirion

I have several issues from the 90's back when they were black and white to the transition to color. Stopped buying them when I got out of dinos for a few years. Still loved them just not as strong.  Would love to get back into this mag, but getting all the back issues I have missed would be impossible. I'm glad they're still around.

I did submit an article! A few years back, on plesiosaurs, but it never went to print. Mike said he'd get back to me, but never did. I'm not sure why, I never chased it up. Maybe my article was awful :-[

I also asked Mike if he would like to print some dinotoyblog reviews - I thought it might make a nice regular single-page feature for the mag, perhaps interesting for readers to have a specific figure go under the knife each issue. It's something PT don't do, or at least didn't at the time, and I wasn't asking for anything in return, but Mike wasn't keen: they already have their regular reviewers. I'm sure he's a busy fellow, but he felt a bit distant and uninterested.

I may be putting my neck on the chopping block here, but, in my opinion (how do I say this)...there are several aspects of the magazine that could be improved. Don't get me wrong, I think its commendable what Prehistoric Times is doing, and I appreciate the difficulties they no doubt face in the current economic climate, but I'd like to see them raise their game  C:-)

I have to agree--I have always enjoyed it, but...less so now.  I think replacing Riff Smith with Phil Hore as their new feature-animal writer has gone towards that (just don't like his style, and he often can't seem to be bothered to remember it is a magazine for collectors and enthusiasts).  And many of the articles seem...self indulgent? Would that be an explanation for the long-winded discussions of old Marx playsets in Sears catalogues?

It is still a good read, but I find myself less inclined to sit down and read through it right away now--it's more of a read I'll get to when I get to it (I do usually quickly flip through it right away though).

I think one of the other sources of detachment is the frequency. When it was every 2 months, it was much easier to get engaged and stay that way. At three months in between, it seems easier to kind of forget about it.  I do understand (sort of) the work that needs to go into it, but at the same time frequency is what affects readership.  I'm almost more surprised that another magazine hasn't been created to take advantage of that time frame.

Mike's been nothing but friendly whenever I talked to to him...he's helped me find dino figures, once driving to the other side of town to get one and been available to talk about a lot of things. He has had issues with some companies selling subscriptions illegally and other places that sell the mag more cheaply than he does and he doesn't make anything o n them so it's getting harder on him..losing Riff really hurt him as well .  Your article def wasn't a problem, but he will hold things things back a lot til an issue comes up that will feature a specific species.  He said a few times in the past he appreciates any input, maybe a lot of people could email him or post here :

I think magazines as a whole are being closed out a bit..much like some books. With online versions replacing them.  PT has the same issues..a lot of what is published is old now having made the rounds on the internet already.  I do as you do, flip through and scan over it then it sits here until I have a moment while waiting for something else.  Most people I know use those brief moments to sit and flip through there cell phones or text people now.  I have a lot of nostalgia tied up in the magazine as well I have to admit. I started with issue 13 I stumbled on in the comic shop..after that I would call every couple weeks to see if a new issue was in..lol Me, my mom and my brother would always take a trip to town to go and get it among other things.

I'm using the third class postage subscription. I'm on the east coast so maybe that is why its taking a bit longer.
