Quote from: Patrx on October 28, 2014, 09:55:45 PMThe Dromaeosaurus is portrayed by the Kaiyodo "Kitidaniryu", with the skull and proportions modified in Photoshop.

It's nice to see some less common figures like this one getting used in dioramas. Very clever use of Photoshop. I had not noticed at first but now that you mention it I can see that it's not quite the same proportion-wise as the figure itself.

Or I need to use models besides Papo, cuz most people seem to dislike Papo. Don't know why though.

Papo is clearly popular, just look at all those entires featuring it.

Congratulations to the winners!
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Well done everyone, always nice to see the creativity from all of you and the work you put in to your dioramas. Hope I can do better next time, but still I find that I don't have the possibilities of making a great diorama. I need better locations I suppose. Or I need to use models besides Papo, cuz most people seem to dislike Papo. Don't know why though.

Emm i think its not about popular figure, its about the story that consist in the diorama including the title, angle, and landscape  :D

Mr. Challenger

My entry is 30, This ocean ain't big enough for the both of us, with the Collecta Mosasaurus. Thanks for all these votes and congratulations to the winners!

What is "molon lave" in english ?  :D

μολὼν λαβέ  or Molṑn Lavé translates to "come and take" said by the Spartan king Leonidas to  Xerxes  at Thermopylae when the Greeks were told to lay down their arms.

And of course, many congrats to all the winners and entrants.

Turret

I found the location you used for your diorama interesting!  Different people can have different preferences, the diversity of the dioramas in this contest shows this!  The impression I've got is the Papo figures are quite popular, on here and in general.  A lot of the dioramas in this contest use Papo figures, and the 2 figures appearing in the most dioramas are Papo ones.  I don't like Papo's prehistoric animals for several reasons, like due to the inaccuracies in most of them which show the lack of research and effort put into making the figures look like the animal they represent.  I don't like the colour scheme on most, and some other details like the cracked horns on the ceratopsians.  When I look at most of them, I also find their expression, pose, speculative details, or a combination of these things makes them look more fictional than like an animal that once lived.  I think the Papo Carnotaurus is quite good though.  The only Carnotaurus toy I prefer to it is the Battat one.  I'm a bit surprised at Papo's popularity, but I respect people's different preferences.  I find it frustrating when you say things like you don't know why people seem to dislike Papo, or things like "The Papo Tyrannosaur makes every diorama look good. #Fact", or when you said it was strange I didn't like the Papo Tyrannosauruses.  People have the right to like Papo figures or not like them, without being criticised for it or have an opinion they don't agree with presented as a fact.

I think people here will be happy to suggest ways to make even better dioramas, if a diorama maker asks for their thoughts.

Talk about the model/figure for diorama, i like diorama number 20.i think its the most simple diorama, but full of impression. just focusing on papo headsculp with a calm water background and creative title. I observe, most people love papo (its detail, paint job, gesture, and many) as a toy or art, and me too :) i agree with sim, papo prehistoric figure look like fictional creature than like an animal that once lived, but i think its little bit not fair to judge papo only from scientific accurate   :)  :P im sorry dr.admin if im not stick to the topic, my main opinion is about diorama number 20  :)

Why would you think that I disrespect other people's opinion? I just find it strange that's all.

There are valid reasons for not liking prehistoric animals by Papo, I mentioned a number in my previous post.  Another relevant reason is some are poor representations of the animal they are supposed to represent (e.g.: the Velociraptors, Pteranodon, Plesiosaurus, Tylosaurus).  So I find it disrespectful to say it's strange to not like Papo figures, because there are valid and relevant reasons for disliking a Papo figure.  There's nothing strange about it.  I don't always agree with what some people like or dislike about certain figures, but I don't say it's strange as I think that wouldn't be an open way to think.

I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.  I don't want any hard feelings.

If you say so. Then what company do you prefer most?

Since I used to make dioramas for a living I am old school and I appreciate the ones with scratch built foregrounds and built or modified figures rather than photoshop or found locations.
My votes were 15, 18, 47 & 54. My favourite was 47 because of the amazing atmosphere and miniature elements, whoever did 47 how did you do the rain? Please tell me you didn't use photoshop.
If I had known the dinosaurs in # 28 were scratch built I would have thrown a vote that way. Maybe we need categories like scratch built, photoshop, found locations etc but that is easy for me to say since it is Dr Admin doing all the work. In the absence of categories maybe a short description from the entrant could accompany the image i.e. "scratch built figures with miniature foreground" or "purchased figure shot against found location"
Great work everyone

Appalachiosaurus

I have to say, for me anyway, that it is a tie between Dry season prowling, The stealth approach of an apex predator, The last supper, and Horrible horn horde for first place. To bad to poll is already closed.

I also gave preference for the ones who made them from scratch, although I myself ended up using Photoshop. I was going to make a forest scenery, but ran out of time and adapted it to sort of a arid plain. Not what I wanted, but I'm happy with it, got a few votes. BTW, thank you to everyone who voted for mine! Here's the layering of my diorama. First of I took piece of Styrofoam for the base and build the terrain on it, used old branches for the trees and real dirt for, well, dirt.

When I noticed I would not be able to finish my forest idea I just took a shot of it with my repainted Waiphoon Camarasaurus and added the background from two pictures I had taken in separate occasions around here.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei... Congratulations to the winners.
I really like n° 30 and n° 41.
But they were so many best entries: 21, Heatstroke is one of my favorite with 18, A desert standoff, Amargasaurus Intruder too, not to forget 56, 57 :P
I have to confess I'm a little tired by the use of Papo dinos. I know they look realistic, great details and everything, even though they are not quite accurate but...  too much is too much!
Don't get me wrong I do like my Paposaurs
