Tallin's Palaeoart and Sculpts

Ah, that's very kind of you! At the moment, I'm not confident in my digital sculpting skills enough to try and get anything printed (And I don't have the moneys haha). I wouldn't know how to go about putting the model into a good enough format to print, and then there's posing it too, which is very hard in mudbox...

Maybe when I can give zbrush a go I'll be able to!

A new painting emerges! I'm working on this, a piece with some migrating Nyctosaurus. With that sail, I'm not fully sure if they could turn their heads easily when flying though...

Very much inspired by the ethereal work of Simon Stålenhag.

By the way, I now have a blog dedicated to just palaeoart, as well as palaeoart of other artists than myself that inspires me and anything interesting that is dinosaur related!

Recent consensus is that they didn't have the sails. As Mark Witton notes in his pterosaurs book, there aren't any structures on the bone of the crest to suggest any soft tissue attachment.

Tallin

Ah excellent, that saves me the bother of dealing with that then.

fabricious

Great color scheme on that background! Can't wait to see more of it.

Another of my favourite theropods! This one has a speculative bristly feather coat, since it lives in polar regions. She's stalking prey or just generally trying to lay low.

Tyto_Theropod

I love Cryolophosaurus as well. It's not one of my absolute faves, but then there are so many awesome Theropods we know about now that it's hard to pick just one! Anyway, this is a lovely rendition. I like the idea of the bristles, but to me they look like they might have more to do with camouflage rather than keeping warm, unless this is a youngster with the last of her chick down.

Wow. Simply wow. You will become one VERY popular paleoartist, do you know that? Keep up the great work and keep drawing as much as you do, this is brilliant!

Tallin

yes, as I mentioned earlier, it was inspired by that artist and his use of light. I hardly ever paint backgrounds, so this is also a study for me in methods to improve my own skills.

suspsy

That Nyctosaurus is coming along nicely.

Looking great, Tallin. You should go into this professionally!  ;)

-sigh- I would love to very much, Tyto! I'm not sure how to break into the industry though haha...

I'm going to see Jurassic World tomorrow, so it seemed right to do a proper velociraptor for the occasion! The plumage is inspired by the green woodpecker, one of my favourite birds. I've hardly seen any raptor reconstructions with green plumage, and I wonder if it would work for ground based feathery hunters in a forested habitat?

It looks quite dashing in woodpecker pajamas!
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Tyrannosauron

I just spent half an hour of what was supposed to be essay-writing time going back through this thread. Great work! I really like your style; the clean lines and color palettes are especially appealing.

Tallin

Thank you both so much! Experimenting with colours is always fun!

fabricious

A beautiful raptor, Tallin! Seems like we picked almost the exact same time to base a Velociraptor on an extant bird! (I based 'Cricket' on a desert cardinal)

Very good anatomy and proportions in this one, I'd love to see more birds and feathered dinosaurs from you!
